Serpentine Belt?

Took my ride in for a standard oil change last week. Everything's fine, but tech noted that my serpentine/AC belt is starting to crack/wear. How much should I pay for this job, and how necessary is it? What are the longer-term implications of not doing this job now or in the near future?

Thanks in advance.

Pretty much got flamed for driving like a jackass and was told to slow down. And I'll be damned, slowing down fixed it.

Re: Serpentine Belt?

This aint a 1960's small block Chevy which had a serpentine belt to drive everything; water/oil pump, alternator, PS (if available), AC (if available)

There's your timing belt; which basically runs the entire engine (crank and cams). You can't see this unless you disassemble alot of the engine.

Than there's 2 accessory belts; one for both your alternator and air con, and the other is just for your power steering. If one of those breaks, you basically loose that accessory/s. Changing either one of those belts is about a 5 minute job, needing one wrench.
