Help me decide

My cat is bad in my car, it is making rattling noises (not just the heat shield) and overall just not sounding good. I am trying to avoid purchasing an OEM cat, because I can't afford to put $150+ into my car right now (college student). However, I also need my car to be reliable and as healthy as possible (my school is 9 hours from home)

The following are both keeping the above in mind, and although not the ideal option, would hopefully do well enough for me to get through school with my car.
Cat Replacement 1
Cat replacement 2
I don't know a ton about exhaust, is there any positives or negatives to using one of these to replace my cat? I don't expect any power gains, however it would probably make my car a little louder (greddy evo2 exhaust).

Re: Help me decide

These are just hollowed out versions of your catalytic converter. If you are still running obd2 it will throw a cel for your downstream o2. If your cat is rattling it is probably already in chunks and you could unbolt it and finish breaking the stuff out of it and save 25 bucks if that is what you are looking to accomplish. It should not affect the way your car runs by doing this. The downstream o2 is to monitor catalyst efficiency only AFAIK

Yea if you're just wanting to be cheap remove your stock cat and hollow it out then put it back together. It will just flip the CEL on and won't affect the way your car runs. I've been running a test pipe for 5ish years now with no repercussions.
