Need info on intake

Hey, I'm new to the forums and have a rather simple question but i need some personal opinions on it. Cold air intakes, Do they provide actual horsepower? are they worth buying? hows the sound? I'm looking at a simple AEM intake called the 22-406R and I was wondering if it actually is worth it.
~Cheers

Re: Need info on intake

IMO: The stock intake (and also the stock header) are really very good for mass-production parts, so unless you're planning more extensive modifications, dying to add some induction noise, or just can't stand the sight of a stock piece under the hood, you're better shoveling the money somewhere else. You'll see a few horsepower off an aftermarket CAI due to losing the resonance chamber, and it'll get a bit louder for the same reason. H-series engines are pretty highly tuned in stock form -- there's not really any cheap horsepower to gain.

Re: Need info on intake

Get a K/N filter and drop it in your stock Prelude intake box. Under 50 bucks and one of the easiest performance boosts you'll ever perform. End of discussion!

Re: Need info on intake

So if I wanted slight bits more horsepower what would you guys suggest? intake is good as stock but is there anything else I can sink money into that will give me that extra hp?

Re: Need info on intake

How much money are you willing to spend on a little more horsepower? If you replace the intake, the exhaust header, and the exhaust itself, you might get a 10% gain. Maybe a little more.

Yep...and you have to do all three to get there. Might have to tinker with the throttle body as well. There's no easy horsepower in most Hondas and especially in H-series engines.

Re: Need info on intake

if you want to see horsepower gains do as everyone is telling you. from my understanding of things you can have many upgrades such as intakes, headers, exuast,IM,throttle body etc, and actually lose power rather than gaining power. it doesn't matter what you have until you tune your car with those upgrades.
