Too good to be true

Recently I have been looking for a new prelude and its been hard to find decent ones. Basically no matter what, im going to have to have the lude shipped to me after I buy it. Ive come down to 3 ludes all around 8 hours away from me. The price average has been 6-7 grand for one up to my standards. But I just found one with 170k miles stock everything pretty much and it is 3,300. What do you guys think. Maybe something is wrong with it i cant get a carfax but the title is clean.

The other one im looking at is a sh with 180k but its 6k.

Re: Too good to be true

Are you going to drive there and look at these cars in person? Buying a car by what the owner says online and the pictures isn't smart. There could be all sorts of issues with the car and the second you buy it and it gets to your house your screwed.
The price seems right for that first car, mileage is on the high side so 3,300 isn't uncommon to see. The 2nd one is overpriced for 180k 4-5k the very most

I know its not the brightest thing to buy a car without test driving it, but trust me this is the only way I can get my hands on another lude.

Re: Too good to be true

the first seems to be a great buy. and if your willing to spend 6k on one, and u buy the $3300 one and the motor pops 6..7..8. months down the road and u put a used, cough cough h23 bluetop in it, your still under what u wanted to spend. and u get to put in some good ol fashion blood and sweat into it to make it alittle more your own. that is of course your capable of doing your own swap. if u gotta pay someone else, well I guess that plays a role in the decision making too.

just my .02

see if the owner could email you a walk around of the car while its running. if hes a good person to buy from and wants to make a sale, he'll do what he needs to do to make it happen

Re: Too good to be true

Thanks for the input, I think that is the one im gonna go with. Ill also mod it up a bit ive got some DC headers, greddy Cat Back, and Injen Cool air intake laying around so I figure ill save some money, rather than pay for other peoples mods.

Re: Too good to be true

Trust me you don't want to buy a car without seeing it in person. When I was buying my Prelude there was lots of ads that I looked at and the car looked perfect and the owner described it as perfect. But when I finally went to see it they had issues like rust, milky oil, blow by and just didin't look like anything the pictures showed. In fact the Prelude I own had a slipping automatic transmission and the seller didn't mention it at all and I found out myself when I test drove it. Why is this the only way you can buy another Prelude? Im pretty sure you can find a nice one in driving distance where you live.

Re: Too good to be true

Take a train. From there take a cab to the dealer
If the car sux, cab to train to home.
If the car is cool drive it home. In va dealers can issue temporary tags.

Car looks legit in those highly tweaked photos.

I stared at certain items in the pix and it looks like it was solid before the dealer added their pizazz (detailing term)... go 4 it

Re: Too good to be true

The reason this is the only way I can get one is because there is literally no preludes in the florida panhandle. Maybe a couple and they aren't what i am looking for. I may be able to drive over there but I don't know when I would have time

Re: Too good to be true

the first one they didn't even put the battery support back correctly lol. both are a little riced out and look cheap. they need to have some of the garbage taken off and cleaned up. the first one has stupid ebay headlights, either one could be great, or could be garbage. need to go test drive them. look at all of the front suspension, any play left to right by wiggling the wheel or up and down. inspect the axle boots and any rubber on the suspension to get an idea of maintenance

Stupid decision to buy a car without test driving it... Waste of money. Me and my girl did that and guy said nothing wrong with the car. Spent $2500 on it, Vw beetle for her, and found out the CEL bulb was taken out with 9 codes, and trans started slipping BAD would not enter 3rd gear after 30 miles owning it... Total miles driven are about 50 since we bought it in 2012, and are in a lawsuit against the guy for lemon law that might take 6 years........ Save yourself the headache buy another car for the time being and get another lude when one comes around....

Re: Too good to be true

Am I the only one that saw pics for two different engine bays on that first one? I saw that same car on CL when I was looking around the other day. I would definitely go look at it in person. The chance of that car being in the condition they are trying to make it seem is slim to nill. If I weren't busy today, I would stop by there and check it out for you. If it's still there this weekend, maybe I can look at it.

I'd ask them first if they still had the stock headlights, I'd ask the second if they still had the stock taillights.

Re: Too good to be true

Well the thing is I have another 2000 lude in my backyard that I can get parts from, its an auto but still. If anyone would be willing to take a look at it near the area that would be AMAZING and I will love you forever. The cost to get there is to high. Its is a risky decision and I havent decided yet. If I did get it I would replace the headlights and the second one comes with clean carfax and stock rims and taillights but its 2700 more with 8k more miles. Thanks for all the input so far.

I wouldn't buy either one of the ones you posted nor would I bother looking at them. You should look for a unmolested prelude instead of these preludes that have been messed with by somebody else. Finding a completely stock prelude is ideal

The first one looks unmolested. Besides the horrible headlights it's completly stock under the hood. The second one I would stay away from.

Re: Too good to be true

Finding a UNMOLESTED prelude would be extremely hard and expensive. I have only found one with 36k on it and its a 97, GORGEOUS! But, I cant get a loan for a car that old. I figure ill get the first one, throw my mods on it and enjoy.
