Difficult to fill last 10 liters into fuel tank

Hey guys. This has been going on for years now. The last bit to fill the fuel tank takes about 10 min. to fill. I see there is a little flap in the filler hole, don't know if I can take it out to help with maybe a air lock. It is very frustrating when I have to fill her up. As soon as the fuel pump nozzle clicks out, the gas attendant says the tank is full, but I know I can still go another 10 liters by where the gauge was, and the amount that has been put in. Anyone has this same problem, or a way to remove that little fuel flap ? Hope this makes sense. Thanks.

Oh I've had vehicles that the fuel won't go in for more than a few seconds at a time unless you have the nozzle aimed a certain way.
Maybe filling it slower, particularly nearing those 'last 10 liters'....
Can you use 'self serve' filling station where you live?

Yes, maybe you are right, just have to fill it slower the last few liters. The problem is we have no "selve serve" filling stations, all pump attendants, and they are always in a hurry, so maybe I must just tell them that I will do it myself. it is going to look weird to them that the customer wants to fill his own tank

Re: Difficult to fill last 10 liters into fuel tank

It may have something to do with the return line back to the charcoal canister. I noticed that when I deleted all of my evap stuff and capped off the lines that returned back to the fuel tank that it was much harder to pump gas into my car, I guess because there is no way for the air to go out as the fuel is going in, so it makes the pump back up with fuel as if it were filled up

Re: Difficult to fill last 10 liters into fuel tank

5th gen gas tanks take 15.9 gallons I believe

I wouldn't push too much into the tank. Yes you can always force in an extra gallon or so but you risk over-filling when you do so.

The EVAP system allows the extra gasses to be burned off vs built up and ventilated when the cap is opened - such as in all 94 and older cars. So I doubt that has anything to do with your concern.

Re: Difficult to fill last 10 liters into fuel tank

Either your evap canister vent is clogged, or the vent in the filler neck is clogged.

Re: Difficult to fill last 10 liters into fuel tank

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions guys. I will have a look over the weekend to see if i can find something on the vent system. I only fill up every second week, so it is not like i need to do it every day. It is just that it never before took that long to fill the tank, i think i started to notice it for the last 2 years or so. Be blessed.
