Clutch Issue

My clutch is slipping in my 1998 Honda prelude, it only slips after probably driving it for a hour? it grabs in v-tec does not slip seems to happen in 5th gear lower rpms like 3k. I can also put it into gear easy and down shift I recently ran out of clutch fluid about a couple months ago to where the pedal was stuck to floor but i refilled it and didn't have a problem any ideas much appreciated!

Re: Clutch Issue

You shouldn't run out of brake fluid unless there is a problem. Check the hardline for any leaks, check the master cylinder and slave cylinder.

Re: Clutch Issue

Replaced slave and master cylinder and currently have no leaks. I think when i replaced it the first time i didn't put sufficient amount of fluid. Also put 30k miles after it ran out of fluid and no slipping until recently, I do have 93k miles it could be about that time for a clutch i am just not having problems until it gets hot then i can turn it off for about 30 mins after driving it for couple hours and what ever i do i cant get it to slip.

Re: Clutch Issue

Yeah all you can do is bleed the fluid and adjust the pedal but don't get your hopes up, sounds like the clutch is worn down.

Hows the pedal feel? running without enough fluid will damage hydraulics.

Re: Clutch Issue

Sounds exactly like clutch slave and master cylinder. Otherwise check your valve-cover gasket and VTEC seal. Check clutch pressure plate and/or release bearing to see if it is in early failure. Could be trans fluid leak to be from shift selector seals.

Ultimately if it's not the slave and master cylinders, you may have to replace the clutch disc, pressure plate, and release bearing, and shift selector seals.

Happened to my '01 SH around 65,000 miles.

Good luck.
