BB6 LS1 Widebody Build

Ok so before I get started let me tell you a little about myself. I have been in the paint and body and fabrication business for over 20 yrs and I have owned my own shop for over 12 yrs. During all these years I've done all types of fabrications and sprayed just about every paint that's out there, countless body modifications on cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles and even RV's so let's just say that I am capable of pulling this build off. So with that being said let's get this show on the road.

So here's my game plan on what I'm trying to achieve. I'm wanting to build a widebody right hand drive rear wheel drive 5th gen lude sitting on a corvette chassis and utilizing the LS1 and drivetrain and all of the corvette suspension. In order to even make this happen I have to completely lose the backseats and remove the entire floor from the firewall back to the trunk, once this is done I will place the prelude body over the corvette chassis and lower it and set the ride height with the body then I will build a new subframe and chassis to connect the prelude body to the corvette frame. There are a lot of other modifications that must be done prior to making this happen but I just wanted to give y'all an overview of what's to come. Now in the beginning of this build is gonna move really fast because I have already done most of the mods so don't think that i'm working like Chip Foose and have 3 shifts on this build, it's just me and my fabricator and occasionally some friends lending a hand. So hang on and get the popcorn ready because the show is about to start.

Re: BB6 LS1 Widebody Build

First day we purchased the car

Next day we started the tear down process
http://[/IMG]

Started pulling the motor out
http://[/IMG]

Look at what we caught at the end of the line
http://[/IMG]

Now that the motors out cleaned and washed the engine bay
http://[/IMG]

About a week later we went to pick the RHD clip up in Oklahoma

Re: BB6 LS1 Widebody Build

We started removing all the dash and wiring from the RHD clip
http://[/IMG]
http://[/IMG]

Removed the firewall from the rhd front clip using the plasma cutter
http://[/IMG]

Removed the firewall from LHD. Notice we left the dash support beam to keep the body from spreading open or twisting since we also removed the glass.
http://[/IMG]

Fitted the RHD firewall prior to welding it in
http://[/IMG]

After making sure that everything fitted correctly we started tack welding it in

Re: BB6 LS1 Widebody Build

Ok since we're pretty much done installing the RHD firewall i'm gonna move over to the rear of the car and start widening the rear quarter panels. The rear quarter will be widen by 3" I don't want a massive bulky looking widebody I want it to flow with the car and look like it came from the factory that way. The rims that I'm going to use are 19X11 with a +11 offset and i'm wanting the wheels to tuck with no camber " i hate camber " that's not my style, to each is their own. Let's get going.

First I start by marking my line by using 3/4" tape
http://[/IMG]

I then make my cuts using a cutoff wheel
http://[/IMG]
http://[/IMG]

I then cut a 4" strip of 1/8th thick steel and pull the quarter panel out and hold it in place while I tack it in.
http://[/IMG]

I then check the fitment using a 10" rim with a 20mm spacer to see if I pulled it out far enough since I haven't got my wheels yet.
http://[/IMG]
http://[/IMG]
http://[/IMG]
http://[/IMG]

Once I'm ok with the fitment I then finish tacking the metal spacer on the quarters
http://[/IMG]
http://[/IMG]

Once its all tacked up I tape off my bodyline in preparation for the fiberglass/bondo
http://[/IMG]
http://[/IMG]

I then started the bodywork on the quarter panels
http://[/IMG]

Prior to doing the bodywork on the lower half of the quarter panel I had o fill in the gap in the fender well after the roll and pull of the widen panel. I used a trailer fender and cut it in half and that works perfectly.
http://[/IMG]

I clamped it in place and then tacked it.
http://[/IMG]
http://[/IMG]

I then finished the bodywork once i tacked it all in place.
http://[/IMG]
http://[/IMG]
http://[/IMG]

I repeated the same steps for the passenger side.
http://[/IMG]
http://[/IMG]
http://[/IMG]
http://[/IMG]

Here's a picture from the back after both quarters were done, all that ass!
http://[/IMG]

Primed the quarters in black primer.
http://[/IMG]

Side view after primer
http://[/IMG]
http://[/IMG]

That's gonna be all for tonight guys it's almost 4am I gotta get some sleep. I'll continue this tomorrow. Goodnight.

Yeah you don't have to worry about me quitting " I'll Get-R-Done"
You see I have a slight advantage over those other guy's, I own my own shop, I do my own work, I have my own fabricator besides me, my overhead is to a bare minimum because i don't have to sub anything out and I have money might not be much but it's enough to do this build. Trust me Ogsmakdade unless I die overnight this build will get done.

Re: BB6 LS1 Widebody Build

While the project itself is certainly impressive, video of the plasma cutter in action please? And another of the tack welds for the chassis. These are the tools that seperate most builds from backyard shenanigans. Joe, you must make a kit car from this... You are now morally responsible and obligated to finish this. Sorry for the bad news, lol
