SH Engine in a Base model - It's a no go

Well I bought a '99 SH engine to replace the blown engine in my '97 Base. I was halfway to getting the old engine out of the Base when I noticed one MAJOR issue. The mounting points on the block where the intermediate half shaft mount to the engine block don't match the mounting points for the ATTS unit. Why the heck would Honda go through the time and money of making a seperate block for the very limited production SH?

So now I'm stuck with a '97 car with a blown engine and a '99 SH engine with $300 worth of new parts on it. Anybody want a car or an engine?

I forgot to mention that I'm going to take a few measurements and look into machining an adapter bracket tomorrow. I'm a Mechanical Engineer for a reason. :)

Funny, I always thought the SH and base used the same motor. Hmm...

Well, you answered your own question. They put things different FOR the ATTS. Even the oil filter is in a different place. I don't know exactly what to tell you to do so I'll let someone whose had this situation tell you, like black_prelude97 or T.E.L.
In the mean time, look for a PM from me.

They are exactly the same other than the block and a few small items like the oil filter housing. From the research I've done tonight, all the internals and the head are the same.

Right now it's looking like the easy solution would be to sell the SH engine with the new parts I put on it. (Timing belts, rear main seal, valve cover gasket, etc.) Then just buy a base model engine or long block.

get Sh axles
base model intermediate shaft is replaced with the atts unit on the sh. There is a mounting bracket for the atts unit if I remember correctly cause I remember removing a metal/aluminumn peice from the tranny.

There is no mounting bracket. The ATTS bolts to the engine block with four bolts. My problem is that the intermediate shaft from the base model won't bolt to the ATTS mounting locations on the SH block.

Thanks for the reply though.

I forgot to mention that I bought the SH engine as part of a complete drivetrain. I have the SH tranny, half shafts, and ATTS unit. Although the ATTS unit is shot and one of the CV joints is garbage.

OK. Sorry for being scatter brained and not consolidating these posts.

Has anybody with an SH successfully eliminated the ATTS unit and completely removed it? If so, what did you do for an intermediate shaft?
