Buying advice.

Looking for the voice of experience.

Im looking for a new car as my 87 supra is in the shop for the fourth time in the two months i have owned it.

I started looking at a 98 type HS thats not far from me. I gave the owner a call he is asking $8500 and said it had 170,000km on it. He was honest and told me his friend (the previous owner) was clipped by a neon. the drivers fender and the bumper were replaced but the gaps are not perfect.

I dont know enough about these cars yet so i figured i would ask others if it was a good deal. Im not looking to fix it up (not for at least a year) just wondering if it is it worth it? Oh and how long/how many km can you expect on the motor?

The cars last for a while. The thing that it was hit, is no that great but maybe all good. U have to make sure that he was just clipped, and not totaled or something. Make sure there's no frame damage. The motor will last you for a long time. My 4 gen, is at 189,000 miles and is all good. Just a clutch issue. And the H22's I think will handle more.

You can find better deals online or at car dealers. 180+ for a 98 is a boat load of miles, specially with that price. I would say don't rush it and look around, i'm in the process of buying one, its a 98 sh too its got 147k on it and runs really strong, i've been exercising that Vtech and its fun, except gas mileage is crap, you got to baby sit the pedal or before you know it its time to fill up. the car only gets 19.4 miles to the gallon- not sure if you're looking for a commuter. with a few ignition upgrades you can get more miles out of the gallon though...if the frame isn't bent and the car drives straight it should be ok i would say...make sure it doesn't try and steer to one side while keeping the wheel straight- if the cars alignment is good then that means theres frame damage
