anyone else ever encounter auto-lock troubles?

My passenger side lock has completely **** the bed. It used to work when I got the car, then started working sometimes, then rarely, now never. I always have to reach across and use my hand to lock it before leaving the car.

The lock switch on the drivers side locks and unlocks the driver side, but the passenger doesn't even move, I can hear movement from the passenger side door though. And the switch on the passenger side locks and unlocks the drivers side but not the passenger. Same for the key auto locks buttons.

I don't really know the inner workings on the door to be honest, all I did was swap the speakers out. But I assume it's the motor that controls the locks that needs to be replaced? Any other ideas to fix this?

Any impute appreciated! Thanks!

Re: anyone else ever encounter auto-lock troubles?

You take some wd40 and spray the lock at the door latch. Probably ought to take the door panel off first. When you do you'll see some rods that go front to back that connect the inner door lock handle to the lock itself. Check them for bent or unadjusted..
Wd40 solved my driver side same issue

oddly the rods can get outta line with each other sometimes. Just make sure the rods are ok. This happened to my driver side door a few times.

Had this happen to me before, turns out it was the lock assembly it's self. i suggest taking the door panel off and check to make sure everything is plugged in and see what is broken. My lock it's self was broken on my car there is a small rod that holds it in place. if you need one let me know i think i have one.

Re: anyone else ever encounter auto-lock troubles?

dont use wd40! there is lock lubricator at the auto parts place that wont leave a film like wd40 does. it could have just frozen, in which case lock lubricator or lock deicer should fix it.

Re: anyone else ever encounter auto-lock troubles?

I sprayed graphite over the 40. No dirt yet. WD40 will get it free-ed up if that's the issue.

Re: anyone else ever encounter auto-lock troubles?

I`ll be pulling the door plastic off tomorrow and let you guys know how it goes. It seems that the passenger side DOES lock when I push it (usually) but never unlocks, sometimes it gets stuck halfway and sometimes it doesn`t move at all. Weird.

So basically once the plastic is off inspect the rods and try lubricating the lock by spraying inside the door itself? I realized very quickly you can`t do anything from the outside latch without reaching the lock from the inside.

Re: anyone else ever encounter auto-lock troubles?

UPDATE TIME, I currently have my door apart in the garage. Using WD 40 seemed to free it up slightly (I can lock it and unlock it manually very easily) so I would imagine the auto lock would have started working but it doesn't. I caked all the joints of the bar in wd40 and sprayed the actual lock that the bars for the handle and lock insert into.

After playing with it for like 15min it locked maybe once or twice and it only locked after I walked away for a few minutes and tried again which I found strange. Never unlocked once though. Drivers side still locks and unlocks 100% of the time using either driver or passenger side switches.

I have an extra door in my basement. I suppose switching the locks is the only option? Due to the locking of where it is inside the door, it looks like a headache.

Re: anyone else ever encounter auto-lock troubles?

Oh, they're a real joy!!! Never done a 5th (yet) but did a 3rd.
You have to figure out how Honda assembled it. Small flashlight, preferably flexible will be your friend. Or a hat light.
If I remember correctly a phillips screwdiver, dental picks $4.99 bin at autozone), tweezers and pliers are your tools and patience is a must.
Maybe there's a youtube. I dunno. On the 3rd a 'c' clip was holding the outter handle to the lock. It's known as a Jesus clip. Dental pick popped it off. But you end up using His Glorious name either in vain or in submition depending on your beliefs. I submitted to His will a long time ago and He has helped me in many ways, including finding where that #@%& clip went to and how to REINSTALL it.
Good luck!!

Re: anyone else ever encounter auto-lock troubles?

Managed to get the latch unhook and all the rods off but can't seem to get it out of the door without taking the glass/track out :( This almost seems not worth the reward.

Re: anyone else ever encounter auto-lock troubles?

Well you can always reach across the car and lock it.

Yeah I forgot, you do have to remove the glass track and glass.

Re: anyone else ever encounter auto-lock troubles?

Haha exact thing my dad was telling me.

Little annoying but got it out of the parts car door and tested it, Locks and unlocks without any issue. Going to attempt to remove the one from my car and install the new one tomorrow.

Re: anyone else ever encounter auto-lock troubles?

BAM! I did it! Stoked to have 2 perfectly working power locks. I didn't even end up taking the glass and track out. If you have patience, a steady hand and a small light you can move the latch a certain way and use one of the small holes in the door to expose the single screw that holds in the lock actuator. Swap the new one in and put it back together.
