Interior Door Handle Removal

Hey guys, so the chrome stuff on both of my interior door handles is peeling off and looks terrible. It's even cut a few of my passenger's hands when they opened the door from the inside. I want to take off the handles to re-paint them, but I cant figure out how to do it without breaking anything...the problem seems to be the rivet..how can I get it off? Help!

Re: Interior Door Handle Removal

Good links right there. I'm gonna have to order me a replacement for my driver's side.

Re: Interior Door Handle Removal

No worries, Mike. Thanks anyway. It's not broken, just the chrome coat is peeling off. It's on the to-do list but not high priority by any means. Good to know I can take one off a civic or accord though, there are plenty of those at the junkyards.

Re: Interior Door Handle Removal

Thanks for the links guys...but I don't want to replace anything. Id just like to take off the chrome crap and re-paint the handles. Should I just break the rivet holding the handle in and find something else to replace it?

Re: Interior Door Handle Removal

By the rivet do you mean the plastic fitting that holds the door lock actuator arm?

Re: Interior Door Handle Removal

The links tell you what to do to remove the handle. It's your choice replace with other or your repainted one. Then the links describe how to reassemble.
