Icon11 Head, tail, and fog lights recommendation!!

Can anyone recommend a good/decent brand of lights that im able to buy either online or a store.
If possible if they come smoked that would be great! Also that goes great with hids!!!

- My headlights are busted due to some low life punk that popped half the neighbors headlights.
- And I bought my prelude without fog lights and I am hoping to find and install em'
- Now the tail lights are fine but idk how to smoke em so buying smoked ones and selling the stock would be my choice.

Re: Head, tail, and fog lights recommendation!!

i would recommend against any ebay projector style headlights. i am purchasing these which are oem style with a black bezel to do a retrofit on them soon, but they look to be decent. i have ebay projectors on my lude right now and really hate them, even with the best silverstar halogens that i could find ($22 per x4 for both low and high beam h1) they are barely bright enough to see 100' in front of me. my truck has $10 bulbs and foggy lenses and has much better light output.

if your stock lights arent broken, just clean them, if they are broken get as close to OEM as possible.

the CCFL would be the Halo rim ebay projectors. i have them, they are cool looking, but low quality and burn out.

it is not difficult to tint your taillights, i tinted my stock ones and paid around $20 for parts to do it.

one can of VHT nite shades
one can of clear coat of your choice
1000 grit sandpaper
2000 grit sandpaper
rubbing compound
some painters tape

remove lenses, sand down the whole thing with 1000 grit in as smooth a pattern as possible, clean with soapy water, dry, mask off areas you dont want tinted (i masked off the whole clear part and only tinted the red) wrap the back in a plastic bag and tape to edges to reduce chances of overspray, spray thin light coats of the night shades with at least 5 minutes in between coats, i only put 2 thin coats because i wanted to have the red still visible. after you get the shade you want in an even coat, wait 30 minutes, then spray with clear. again thin coats with 5 minutes between. careful not to spray to thick on one spot or you may get runs in the paint. after 2-3 coats of clear, let it sit for another half hour, then you should be good to put them back on the car. wait for a day or 2, then take your 2000 grit, soak it in water, and rub down the taillights with it in a smooth and even way. they will look scratched up from this. then take your rubbing compound and buff the lights. they will be shiny and tinted!

edit: also you can JDM v2 fogs on ebay for like $75, and there are several install guides on here and other prelude sites.

Re: Head, tail, and fog lights recommendation!!

Oem headlights and tails please. Depo makes good Orem replacements, you can find oem style tails on eBay for like $40 maybe. Fogs? JDM fogs, get the real deal. Do not buy eBay fogs. I have the JDM from ICBM.com and they are super easy to install come with everything you need

Re: Head, tail, and fog lights recommendation!!

DEPO headlights are good, but OEM is much better to just restore them
OEM for taillights, I have the DEPO taillights and the light output sucks, you can barley see my brake light.
Ebay fogs make sure they are the v2 reps and not v1. I've had the v2's over a year and are great, look just like the JDM ones. Interior switch sucks though, but I never use it since my fogs turn on with the car.

Re: Head, tail, and fog lights recommendation!!

If you can't get OEM, go with DEPO heads
V2 jdm replica foglights I recommend if you don't want or can't shell out $200+ for the authentics. (Personally I can't justify spending that much. They look exactly the same) Just do the H3 conversion and you're good to go.

Re: Head, tail, and fog lights recommendation!!

If I didn't tell people my fogs were reps they would go on living life thinking they are the legit JDM ones :) You really don't need to do the H3 conversion they sell HID kits in H3C and bulbs in H3C

Well it's easier to find h3 in stores than h3c. Plus h3 is cheaper on ebay :p and I agree with the people not knowing about the foggies lol. Like I said they look identical

Retrofitting is putting in a projector from other cars, or like morimotos and putting them inside the headlight. Idk if I can post from other sites but here is a link explaining everything. Projector Retrofit Write-Up (Valeo H7) 5G Prelude - Honda Prelude Forum : Honda Prelude Forums

hmm looks neat, but my friend just told me to get oem headlights and just install hids on the headlights. Now with the hid kits or bulbs or whatever, there are these things called high and lows? and 9003 and so on? h3 and so on? which would best serve me, a person who is required to wear glasses and still have a difficult time seeing in the dark.

What do you mean by they blow? The bulbs they come with blow within a week but just buy another set for 10 bucks and they will last you months.

Your "low" beams are your "night" lights. The "high" beams are the lights that turn on when you pull the light lever towards you. The bulbs that our Ludes Have are "H1" for both the high and the low beams. You only need to switch out the low beams. I mean you could switch out both if you really wanted to but there really is no reason to lol. For our fog lights, the bulb size is H3. So if you wanted an HID kit for the foggies, get the H3. The 9003, 9004, H1, H3, that is the number of the bulb. Our car just uses the H1, and the H3.

Now with putting HID in stock headlights is really not recommended. You will get a lot of glare, and because the headlights were not made to used HID with, your light will shine all over the place. You will have to point your lights down to get rid of the glare. Most of the light wont shine forward. In other words, visibility will be worse than your florescent bulbs. You wont be able to see anything!

Thats were retrofitting comes in. The projector that is put in the headlight, directs the light forward, removing glare and allowing the light to be sent out in a straight line.

Ive held out buying HIDs without a retrofit because of the glare (i dont want to be a dick and blind people) and because of the whole light spreading all over the place.

Just my 2cents

Re: Head, tail, and fog lights recommendation!!

I have v2 ebay fogs and I think I paid like 60 for the set, and i was actually surprised at the quality. Metal housing, all the parts were metal except for the lens. I recommend them. Just make sure you order a set of quality bulbs on the side cause the ones that come with the lights will be toast in about a week or 2 lol

Re: Head, tail, and fog lights recommendation!!

Yeah get oem(original equipped) headlights but with black housing, the manufacturer for our headlights are Depo and run around 200 new on ebay but before buying new headlights if your only problem is that the headlights are hazed you can sand them down with turtle wax lens restorer or any other kit like that. As for HIDs you really only need low beams which are your regular beams you use at night. High beams are for when your on lonely roads with no one in front or on the opposing side of the road going towards you. I recommend ddm tuning but there customer service is garbage other than that there products are chines but good for what its worth you can also go xentec which is fine and causes no problems to "most". As for fog lights oem replica on ebay is okay if you don't mind paying for imitation and lesser quality but the price justifies it.

Re: Head, tail, and fog lights recommendation!!

Where do i find jdm v2 fogs? Ebay? Amazon?
how can you tell its v2 and not v1 as one of the posts above stated?
-My friend says fogs are for halogen lights? why put h3 bulbs in? arent those hids? wont it make the fog worse?

im still looking into the headlight situation, still looking for oem headlights then i'll look into depos' if the search takes too long.

now for the retrofitting, where do i get my hands on the projectors?
Is retro fittings better than the headlight projectors sold online? (the visibility) Why?

i get out at school late at night and i need my car lights to be working!!

Re: Head, tail, and fog lights recommendation!!

Ebay would be the cheapest. Theres 3 ways to tell. First they come with the button bezel second the v2's have a reflector peice inside that covers the bulb v1's don't third v1's are much cheaper at around 30 bucks while the v2's are usaully around 60. Also avoid those "combo packs" that have the fogs plus turn signals or sidemarkers as almost all of them have the v1's.
Fog lights can have HID's or halogens it's up to you. "H3" is the type of bulb it doesn't mean its an HID light bulb.
Your better off getting a second hand pair of OEM headlights unless you willing to dish out some serious cash for brand new ones from the dealer. DEPO is most likely your better easier choice.
If you never retrofitted headlights before I'd get someone to do it as you can easily screw up $200+ headlights, there's a few people who do it on here maybe they can chime in and help. And yes they are far better then any projector style headlight you can buy. They are horrible and have the worst output I've ever seen.

Re: Head, tail, and fog lights recommendation!!

The v2 fog lights have the diffuser inside of it. You can't see the bulb when you put it in. The v1 you can see the bulb inside when you put them in. Here's an example of the V2 http://bit.ly/VMwObB If you see inside you can see the difuser. H3 is a HID or a halogen. The foglight takes the H3C but you can convert it to H3. H3C is harder to find in the store. 3000k HID H3 for the fog lights work. They look really nice

For the projectors don't get the eBay cheap stuff it's no good. Get a projector at theretrofitsource.com. The moromoto minis are the cheapest and easiest to install. Any of those would be good enough. All are ok but some are harder to install.
