5th gen wont start. security?

i was giving my friend who owns a 2000 SH a ride home today, and when we got there, i wanted to get some pics of the 2 together. we went to jump his car, hooked it up and i noticed a red light flashing in the drivers side of the dash by the pillar. he got it started, ran it for a second, then it died when we unplugged it from my car.

once we plugged it back in, he went to start it and the horn started blaring.

horn kept going until we disconnected the jumpers.

now there is just nothing. is there some sort of factory alarm that doesn't allow the car to start? i didnt get any pics because it was getting dark and started snowing and blowing and was just all around very cold.

he is going to get a new battery soon i think. but i'd like to help get another lude running. any help is appreciated.

Re: 5th gen wont start. security?

That's completely aftermarket. There's likely a safeguard that sees the hood being open or the battery as being disconnected and therefore shuts off power to the car to "prevent theft". You'll have to find the instructions for that specific alarm module. The factory Immobilizer works off the same key you use for the doors and doesn't forget its code, nor does it let the car run for a little bit before shutting it off. If the factory Immobilizer sees the wrong key (or no key at all) it won't even let you crank the engine.

Alright thanks. He traded his 240sx for it last summer, and all of that was done by the previous owner. Hopefully we can get it running without too much hassle.

Re: 5th gen wont start. security?

If you can figure out where the alarm is powered from, undo it's power source. Maybe removing the alarms fuse will do the trick.
