open deck block

how common is it for the head gasket to leak between the open deck? today i was messing with the prelude and noticed it was smoking like a btch, i checked the oil and it was gray. after draining it it appears to be like 1/2-3/4 of a qt too much. the car has never overheated, and the head gasket was replaced like an hours worth of running ago (if that makes sense).

also theres a whole tube of assembly lube (10oz) in the engine, could that be whats causing the oil to be gray and im just freaking out for nothing (the engine has ran for maybe 2 hours total)

Re: open deck block

On a freshly rebuilt motor you use the cheapest oil you have on first start-up since you have all the lube, dirt, and debris in the engine. I'd run it with that for just what you have, about an hour, than change the oil/filter.
Than change the oil again at 1K, and 3K.

At least that's what I'm gonna do on my new motor.

Re: open deck block

like twoke said, although, the smoke is coming from where? the actual engine bay or the muffler??

also, the only fluids that can mix from a head gasket leak are the oil and coolant, together that is. open the oil cap and smell inside, if it smells sweet, then there is a leak in your new head gasket, meaning the person who installed it didnt do a good job. causing a higher oil level.

if it doesnt smell sweet, you should be good, but change that **** oil tomm, and then like twoke said, after another 1k, then 3k, then every 5k from there on.

Re: open deck block

The smokes coming from the exhaust, and the oil doesn't smell sweet but kinda gassy. I'll put some fresh oil in it today and see what happens.
