i finally tracked my trunk leak!!

well the rains come around again, and after two years of trying everything i can think of to replace, clean, or check I know where all the water is coming from that collects inside my truck.
heres the right side

and the left

as you can see the water is coming from what looks like air vents? if I stick my fingers through I can push out against my bumper. I looked around majestic honda a bit but couldn't really find what that piece is that I need to replace, so does anybody know what this little vent is called? thanks guys!

Re: i finally tracked my trunk leak!!

It's essentially an air pressure relief flap. If you took off your rear bumper, you would notice the flaps move when you close a door. It's to relieve the sudden changes in air pressure. A buddy of mine's Integra was leaking in the same place. He ended up taking some silicone and sealing around the edges. The gasket was toast, and replacing it didn't help.

Re: i finally tracked my trunk leak!!

i was just working on a car at my shop today, took the rear bumper off to find these air flaps taped shut lol... sad to say it was another body shop that did that on the last repair, guess they didnt wanna fix the leak... good luck with your leak, i opened my trunk 2 days ago, and i have a block of wood holding my subs in place so the face of my subs dont get banged up from sliding, and the wood had mold on it from my spoiler leak......... ****ing pain in the ass, now i have to take my spoiler off and reinstall it better and seal it good to stop the leak, im also gonna rip my trunk apart, and make sure theres no other leaks.

Re: i finally tracked my trunk leak!!

I had a trunk leak for the longest time. Turned out my sunroof drain tubes weren't even hooked to the rubber drain grommet

Is it really essential to have? I mean I don't think Honda would've put something like that in the trunk area if it is so easy for water to get in....

Re: i finally tracked my trunk leak!!

Ushondaparts has a search feature. I use majestic if I know where to look. But say for an accesory or an obscure part like shifter boot, it takes you right to the diagram ..
They also have honda shirts n stuff. Same prices as majestic.. 30% off retail.

Btw if smakdade says the sun aint gonna shine tomorrow, you best have a flashlight handy. Buy the parts he suggests.

Re: i finally tracked my trunk leak!!

The air will try to find the quickest way out, like through the flaps. If they were not there, the air will look for the next best exit, probably the weakest part. Perhaps a window seal, grommet, or other potentially weak part. I'm sure it would be possible for a window to shatter because of it!

Re: i finally tracked my trunk leak!!

In case it helps anyone, I have tracked down my boot (trunk) leak. As I parl my car on a downward slope, the rainwater collects on the front edge of my boot seal. It can't drain away so the level of water increases and ends up reaching the screwhole under the rubber trim at the bottom of my rear screen. Bit of filler has solved this.

If you have a leak try parking it on different angles to narrow down circumstances of when leak occurs.
