# of Ball Joints

I am going to order upper and lower ball joints, and I forgot to count em all while I had it back at the pop's house on the car lift. How many upper ball joints are there and how many lower ball joints are there on a 01?

Thanks guys

Re: # of Ball Joints

8 total.... two per side. Any diagram that you would be looking at (if ordering from Honda) would show these.

when replacing suspension parts - know that there is a difference between SH and Base model Preludes....

Please don't work on your car if you were seriously inquiring about how many balljoints there are. Because it sounds like you didn't inspect them and are more than likely throwing parts at a car that could have a different issue.

Re: # of Ball Joints

^ doesn't get it? If it ain't broke don't fix it dude. If you just got extra cash lay in around and wanna buy stuff then fine but you're going about things a bit skewed. What if you are assuming you need new ball joints all the way around and the previous owner has already replaced all of them it may be control arm bushings, tie rod ends, or even you radius rods or crosmemebers have worked loose. Go over the car for real before you through money away. Not saying you don't need ball joints but then again not saying you do. Good luck.

Re: # of Ball Joints

Totally agree with Pokoloco on this one. I JUST did the ball joints on the car. If you got an SH you have two lowers and one upper on each front knuckle. AND THE TWO LOWERS ARE TWO DIFFERENT SIZES. Couldn't find the second lower as aftermarket and had to go to the dealership. I used a vernier caliper to double check and we are talking about a .050 inch difference, and that is a big difference! Otherwise an aftermarket BJ in that slot will be looser than a red floppy catcher's mitt. But DO NOT go buy joints for the hell of it, I had to use an air hammer to get em out and jump up and down on em to get enough counter torque to get em in. CHECK EVERYTHING ON THE CAR FIRST. ESPECIALLY YOUR BOOTS. I had a cracked CV axle and tire rod bellows, before I addressed the Ball joints.

I have the base, and I had read that while doing my research on the setups. the more I read, the more glad I am I am driving around a base. IMHO lol.

I do appreciate the warnings, but it was on my brother in law's to-do list for the car, so I'm sure it needs doing. At the very least it is some preventive maintenance and an excuse to tinker in the shop.

Get some beer, crank some jams, and you could have some fun with it. Otherwise, chances are, you will be shouting long strings of obscenities that should not be repeated by man. But Good Luck! and keep us posted!

Re: # of Ball Joints

Lude27 is right, the two lower front ball joints are different sizes(1mm difference if i remember right, and it WILL be noticeable if its not right..). With different names. I went through like 4 different sets of ball joints before i found out what was going on. One is a "lower ball joint" and the other is called a "sway bar link". Hopefully you don't go through the troubles i went through doing it lol.

I personally stay away from cabin cruisers and opt for open bow boats, I feel its a better use of the space. If you truly need it, you can always put the cover on the front and make it into an enclosed space. I have done that once on the water since I bought the boat. Also when purchasing a boat, I highly advise to buy new if you can. Sea Ray has something called an "original owner warranty" where if you purchase one of thier new boats from thier dealerships, and purchase thier insurance in house, they will do all regular mantaince free of charge (like winterization) and fix whatever you f-up on the boat as long as you don't void the warranty like putting a supercharger on there.

I would also look at what boats hold thier value and why. I was told by my grandfather two memorable proverbs about boat ownership. #1) The best two days of owning a boat are the day you buy it and the day you sell it. #2) If it floats, flies, or f**ks, it's cheaper to rent.
