Re: 5th gen turbo burning oil
Does the block have the standard sleeves? H22s with the FRM sleeves are known to burn oil at an alarming rate stock, so that might not be related to your smoke issue.
I'd drain the oil and see what it looks like. This kid^^ makes a valid point, so check to see if the oil is milky/watery.

Re: 5th gen turbo burning oil
H22's naturally burn oil, no mystery there.
But if you think its the turbo seals, take the downpipe off. You'll be able to tell instantly if its coming from there.

Re: 5th gen turbo burning oil
I will get some pics up today, I did take off the downpipe on saturday and it had oil in there. I am very concerned it is something like piston rings or valve guides.
The motor has Darton metal sleeves, no FRM. |

Re: 5th gen turbo burning oil
What do the plugs look like? They'll tell you whether oil is getting into the combustion chamber.
Sounds like it could simply be "only" the turbo seals. You can also take the turbo off, and if you have oil in the manifold, its 99% coming from the engine, not the turbo.

Re: 5th gen turbo burning oil
I checked in the wastegate pipe and manifold, it is dry and actually pretty clean. I pulled the plugs and they are fine as well, seems to be no oil in the combustion chamber. However when I pulled the downpipe it had oil in it, and the pipes from the compressor side of the turbo had oil in it.
Would I be correct in thinking that the seals around the bearing housing have started to go? |
