Starting Problem!!

Hey guy, my car will not turn over! I drove the car probably 3 times today and when i got off at the end of shift i went out to my car and the starter will not engage at all. But all lights and radio go right on.. Me and some friends push started it tho so it WILL start. But i cannot push start it every time. I remember reading somewhere that there was a recall on the ignition switch or something?? I really don't want to replace the starter, considering i have no idea how to and i cannot find a write up on it!! lol

Do you guys think thats what the problem is? Getting the car running is pretty much a necessity considering that i have to drive to work every day so i need to get this fixed asap.

Thanks for the help guys,

Re: Starting Problem!!

call up your local honda dealership and see if the recall has been fixed for your car (should have to read vin number or something). i have heard of some cases where the replacement one has even failed, and had to be taken in for the recall a second time. you should be able to explain your symptoms to them and see if they can fix it for you.

in the past, even when taking in just for recalls at my honda dealership, they hook it up to the computer or something to run a diagnostics and charge $60, even if we specifically ask not to have it done. but we just have to "remind" them that we just wanted the recall done and they will usually take the extra fees off within a few minutes.

it is also possible that a relay or fuse has gone bad. i would assume that the starter has a fuse in the fusebox inside the engine bay. you could check that. should say the names of the fuses on the back of the cover.

Re: Starting Problem!!

Alright, thanks for the reply. I called my local dealer and there is an open recall for the ignition still so i have an appointment on Monday to get it replaced. I really hope that's the problem haha.. And are you sure there its a fuse/relay somewhere? I can't find one and i was looking at the starter and it looks like a direct link to the battery. The starter showed no sign of going out on me, its just weird that it will not even click when i turn the key now!

Re: Starting Problem!!

Dead battery?
I mean too weak to start the car but lights still work dead. Terminals clean?

Sometimes my truck won't start until I clean the ground post/terminal on the battery. Lights work fine.

Re: Starting Problem!!

The terminals are new. If any terminal is dirty its the one where the positive runs directly to the starter. And its got that little boot thing around it so i doubt it. And we tried jumping it before we dropped the clutch, jumping made no difference to it, Still no click or movement from the starter. Well i guess i'll find out what the real problem is on Monday. I'll keep y'all posted.

Re: Starting Problem!!

It was the ignition switch!! I just picked it up from Honda today and now it fires right up free of charge. I was really worried it was the starter lmao...

Re: Starting Problem!!

Alright so i got the ignition switch replaced and the car worked for like 2 days. I probably started it like 10 times in that time period. Now today i go out after work to leave and it will not start. Its doing the exact same thing it was before i had the switch replaced. The starter was working just fine. SO i called the Honda dealership that replaced the switch and they are trying to tell me to bring it in and that there would be like a 100 dollar fee to find out whats going on.
My question is why wouldn't it be that the switch that they "replaced" is faulty?? Considering its doing the exact same thing it was before.. Because the guy i talked to is telling me that they will not replace it for free again and that it must be something else. I'm not cool with paying them 100 dollars to not fix something else.
What do you guys think i should do?..

Re: Starting Problem!!

have you checked the water level in your battery? i had a problem with my car starting, it would start like 50% of the time and didnt make any sense to me because if something was wrong it wouldnt turn over 100% of the time so my dad checked my battery and it was low and it was a new interstate battery and ever since i have never had that problem
