door lock issue driver side.

Hi! so lately i have noticed it getting harder and harder to unlock my car with the key in the door (i dont have remote unlock) and today it finally stopped working.

since i got the car, the driver's side has been a little messed up, when i turn the key to the left it locks both doors, which is nice, but when i unlock the driver's door, the passenger side stays locked. the passenger side will lock or unlock both sides. i had figured this was just a loose wire and was saving it for when i fix my winged door handle fix.

But! today, i came out of school with a few of my friends, and after fiddling with the lock trying to unlock my door for a minute, i handed the key to the passenger side and had them unlock it. what could my problem be? when i put the key in, it will not turn either way. i have tried my spare and even my red key, but nothing will let it turn.

i am thinking of doing the winged door handle fix today to see if i can see anything loose or broken inside, but could i need to replace the cylinder for the door lock? if so, i have no idea where i would go for that. take the cylinder to a locksmith to rebuild it? go to honda? i don't want to spend a bunch of money. does anybody have any idea what could be wrong?

Re: door lock issue driver side.

alright. its too late for me to be doing all this i have to wait till wednesday when i can tear into it during the day instead of 10:30 at night. plus im cold. right now i am thinking that the metal bar that controls the lock may be slightly bent and preventing it from moving easily and fully.

Re: door lock issue driver side.

I took my inner door panel off and checked the assembly which was fine. Mine wouldn't lock. It was stiff like you said. I shot wd40 to it and it works fine now.

WD-40 worked for me as well. Just spray it in with the little red straw . Works like a charm.

Re: door lock issue driver side.

i felt really stupid when i had a thought that it might be frozen up. the tumblers had frozen. i used some hand sanitizer (because the alcohol will melt ice quickly) and put it in, and immediately it worked.

would still like to find out why i cannot unlock the passenger side from turning the key in the driver's door. i love that it locks, and both lock and unlock work on the passenger side. im not sure about wd40, because it could leave a film inside the lock. they make a special de-icer with a lubricant in it. will pick some up for it.
