looking to buy 98prelude sh..QUESTIONS

The owner of the sh said he pulled head off and found out the valves are bent..and the head needs reworked.. My questions are what causes bent valves?? And What does it mean when head needs reworked?

This isn't an interference motor so if the belt breaks it won't bend valves. Usually you bend valves when the engine is too hot and you over rev it. But I agree run as fast as you can from this car, it sounds like your about to open a giant can of worms.

Re: looking to buy 98prelude sh..QUESTIONS

The heads important man, it's got your whole valvetrain. If that thing has overheated in the past, I'd be wary of all the inner oil seals that are part of the block, not just the head...
Talk him down some more and see if u can find an engine with the cash u saved.

Re: looking to buy 98prelude sh..QUESTIONS

it means it needs to be taken to a machine shop and rebuilt. 1400 isn't a bad price at all though.. one step closer to saving a prelude

1200 for a lude with a blown motor sounds decent. Get the head milled a bit and slap it back on with new valves and stuff.

Re: looking to buy 98prelude sh..QUESTIONS

Previously, I would have said run. Now, I say that's not a bad deal. Just make sure you find a reputable shop to do the engine work and not just any joe blow motors.

Yea, or a used head for even cheaper, or get new valves and a port and polish, Mabye with some titanium springs and retainers if you want to spend a little bit more and get a couple extra horses

Having to fix things can be a blessing in disguise for exactly this reason….It gives you a chance to upgrade parts instead of just replacing them with stock components. That's a lot of what I've done.
