Brake Light Help!

I have a 99 base model and I am having brake light problems. Recently my friend pointed out to me that my brake lights weren't lighting up. My regular running lights work but not my brake lights. I have searched the forums and found similar problems but didn't offer much other than to change fuses. I know this isn't a switch problem because my center light in my window lights up when the pedal is pressed. I replaced the fuses which did nothing and also checked the ground which looked like a proper ground. I sanded down the ground point to bare metal just to make sure it was proper and still nothing.

Any ideas/wisdom?

Re: Brake Light Help!

I did and tried everything that was mentioned other than using a multimeter because i dont have one yet. Just seeing if someone has some insight other than fuses and grounding issues.

Re: Brake Light Help!

sorry but that link offered little help. I'm pretty sure if it was a problem with the switch then my center window brake light wont work either. At least that what looking at the wiring diagram has indicated...

Re: Brake Light Help!

Have you checked the bulbs yet? You know, the things that actually light up? They're dual filament bulbs so one filament (running lights) can illuminate while the other (brake) won't. It's not uncommon to have a burned out bulb, especially since they're probably original Stanley bulbs from when it was built in Japan in '98. (or '99)

Re: Brake Light Help!

^^x2.. once upon a time both of my headlight bulbs blew at the same time. i did everything but check the bulbs because... both don't blow at the same time, lightning don't hit the same place twice and it never rains in southern california.

yes i did but it was good. both filaments were fine which leads me to believe that it was good. if that bulb is fine then it should light up regardless if the other one isnt. at least thats what i gathered from the honda wiring diagram i posted.

Re: Brake Light Help!

If one filament is bad it will only light up when the lights are on, and when you hit the brake it will not light up. Stop being cheap and try another bulb, don't ever overlook a problem without trying the simple first. You replaced fuses that were fine. Try the bulb.
