Clutch and flywheel install help

Sup guys. I feel like my clutch is going to start slippin' (literally) anytime soon since it feels very sensitive and just doesn't feel like it used to. Bled the clutch a few months ago just since it hasn't been done for along time and it appears as no clutch fluid is leaking other than a little seeping from the reservoir. I'll be installing a competition clutch and a 8lb Fidanza fly wheel. I purchased them from ebay Competition Clutch 8014 1500 Stage 1 5 Gravity Organic Perfomance Clutch Kit | eBay

Fidanza Flywheel for Honda Prelude 92 01 H Series H22A H22 Fits 90 02 Accord | eBay

Is there anything I should replace while tackling this big job? My tranny fluid should be good, new cv axles as of less than a month ago, new struts, and new springs.

Re: Clutch and flywheel install help

rear main seal

edit: just because you will have to separate the transmission, and it is a pita to do again if it starts to leak. i'd use a little gasket grease to be sure it makes a good seal and doesn't roll or anything while you are installing the transmission

I agree with your first statement, of replacing the rear main seal.

But trying to make a seal between the tranny and block is useless tho. Since the tranny and block don't mate/touch each other on the bottom (where the flywheel cover bolts to), if the rear main seal DOES start leaking again, its gonna start dripping from right there, at the bottom. Doesn't matter that you formed a gasket everywhere else; its gonna start leaking where there isn't a gasket, at the bottom.

Great suggestion! Completely forgot this bish of a seal. Probably will buy it at my local Honda dealer or just any other auto parts. Do I need to remove the oil pan at all?

Re: Clutch and flywheel install help

Wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the cv axle seals while you have the tranny off.

Re: Clutch and flywheel install help

In need of some help guys... got the tranny off along with the clutch cover, clutch disk and the flywheel. My rear main seal looks fine but I bought a new one of Honda so I'll be putting it in. I'm not sure if I need to take off the plate around the rear main seal so do I? Also does it require any kind of sealant? I don't wanna mess with the oil pan since I put Hondabond to seal that up about a year ago unless I need too. :/

Re: Clutch and flywheel install help

Nope no need to touch that plate.

No sealant, just apply some oil around the seal so it slides in smoothly.

Re: Clutch and flywheel install help

Damm well I took of the plate because I tried taking of the old gasket and it was coming out in little pieces not as a whole piece. So I need to remove my down pipe only problem is that the middle nut is stripped know of a good bolt extractor that I can use? and that works with a long extension since there is no space there

Re: Clutch and flywheel install help

Home Depot/AutoZone.

Most bolt extractors are hex's on the end so you can fit a socket on the end, than however many extensions you need.

Nice those are 3/8" drive, should be even easier hammering those suckers onto the nut.

Re: Clutch and flywheel install help

Alright so the biggest headache doing my clutch is figuring out were these dam bolts go. I put them in little zip bags and labeled most but a friend was helping out the 1st day and i he didnt help with organizing the bolts. So my question is anyone have a diagram or something on which bolts mount the transmission to the block and vice versa? I have the 2 top bolts that go from the tranny to the block by bellow the distributor. 1 that goes from tranny to block under starter. The that have me stumped are the 3 bolts that go from the rear mounting bracket to the tranny and also the 2 that go from the block to the tranny. Really which i didnt let me friend do those and should have taken photos.. lesson learned lol

Re: Clutch and flywheel install help

Unfortunately we can't really help all that much w/o actually being there, cuz mostly all of them that connect the tranny to the block are the same size, 17mm (or 19mm?? ), just diff lengths. So its more-or-less trial and error; find the shortest bolt, and if it's too short, its not gonna grab any threads.
Than find the longest bolt, and if it's too long, it's gonna stick outta the hole even tho its fully threaded.
Than repeat til they're all gone.

I hope you used hondabond on that real main seal plate. I used that ultra flange liquid gasket on mine and it started to leak 3000 miles later. >.< I'm having to pay $300 to get a Honda mechanic to redo it, because I can't be arsed to do it in 30-40 degree weather. >.>
