Heavy Clunk front suspension.

When im backing up and turning the wheel, i hear this heavy clunk from front driver side. Also when I hit pot holes, bumps of ice, deep dip drive way, etc... front right sounds like someone is smashing a hammer.

I thought it was the ball joints, I changed both sides and the clunk is still there. I have Tein Coilovers Basic Damper. What is causing this clunk if it wasnt the ball joints?

This one was before I changed the ball joints.

Re: Heavy Clunk front suspension.

It was kinda hard for me to tell in the video, I personally hate steering and suspension noises. But What I can tell you is to jack up the front end and check for looseness by shaking the wheels left to right and side by side, look at the struts to see if they are blown, also check to see if theres any worn out bushings. Just try to look for the obvious.

Re: Heavy Clunk front suspension.

check the power steering fluid?

jack the car up off the ground, and wiggle the wheel. if it moves side to side, the tie rod ends need to be replaced (they are very self explanitory, dont even need to remove steering knuckle) and when you wiggle it, if you feel a "click" in all directions it is the wheel bearings. check all the bushings and suspension with a visual inspection. look at upper and lower control arms to make sure neither are bent.

if the visual inspection doesn't reveal anything right away, have somebody in the car "recreating" the problem while you are outside of the car trying to get an idea where it is coming from.

do you have one of the free online manuals from the resource thread? bykfixer has a different manual that he links and may end up posting here

Re: Heavy Clunk front suspension.

hey i had an clunking problem and everytime i drove over lil bumps, the reflectors in the road, dips.. anything i was hitting REAL hard. turns out both axles were extremely messed up and the drivers side was cracked in half. check yours out and see if thats the problem... ever since i got mine fixed there has been no more noises over bumps

are you talking about the axle cv joints?

its kinda hard to avoid ice blocks when 3/4 of the road is covered by ice. we just had 16" of snow storm followed by blizzard a week ago and the roads are still ice. no salt or sand at all....
