Re: fav brand of oil/filter?

Fromwhat I've put in my car Mobil 1 Extended Perf is good, currently using Penzzoil platnium so far so good doesn't appear to burn quickly, Mobil 1 is good too. I tried Royal Purple and didn't like it. Felt like it burned to quick

I use Amsoil 5W30+Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer for winter, and Amsoil 10W30 in summer. I also use ONLY Wix filters, nothing else will touch my baby.

Re: fav brand of oil/filter?

Pennzoil actually has a higher API Service Rating of SN. Mobil 1 is only SM.

I personally like Pennzoil. Filter, usually STP. I've heard FRAM's use cheap material.

Re: fav brand of oil/filter?

the fram toughguard is the only fram filter you should use.

i personally use either mobil 1, valvoline, or castrol and use only full synthetic or syn blend (just put castrol syn blend in today because there was a $10 oreilly gift card with it) i just use what is on sale. my last 2 oil changes were mobil 1 full synthetic oil with mobil 1 filter because they had a $30 deal for both.

i have heard too many horror stories about pennzoil and quaker state (same as pennzoil) because in the past they tried to put some additives in the oil that made the oil last longer, but it made lots of sludge build up. even ruined some engines just because of the oil.

O'reilly auto parts sells them. But if you don't have one in your area visit Summitracing.com they sell them too.

I personally go with Castrol and K&N Pro series filter(The NON Wrech-Off)

Re: fav brand of oil/filter?

Champion labs, aka mobil 1 ext performance or K&N gold plus Mobil 1.

Other combinations are good, I know I can find both readily available in a store in case of emergencies. Sometimes castrol and quakerstate syn and 10w-30 are sold out. Go fig.

Re: fav brand of oil/filter?

Conventional 10w30 Quaker State or MotoMaster for both ludes...

Oil filters...I just get regular MotoMaster, only other option in-store around here other than Fram (garbage), and Mobil1 but I don't want to pay double for those.

I bought a couple S2000 oil filters online, anyone familiar with the "Full" brand? Just looking inside them they look really good quality, and they come sealed. Made in Japan. I'm going to try it on my H22 lude. S2K/H22/F22 even 3rd gen prelude oil filters all interchangeable so why not.

Re: fav brand of oil/filter?

There are two, the regular ones made by Honeywell(fram) and the sought after Filtec(dana/wix) there was an older one that came in white with green lettering, HAMP I believe trump both (not stateside)... Hearsay as far as I know.

wix filters are great.

I use royal purple and a honda filter always. The built motor was broken in w/ mobil 1 synthetic, but they changed their formula and it's no longer to my liking.

Honeywell products are fantastic, I use them in the HVAC industry over anything else.

Re: fav brand of oil/filter?

^^^ogs just has to be different^^^
Royal purple/Amsoil is so expensive, but I know your engine isn't typical. At least get a double filter kit and change the filters only, add quarts to the filters!. Around my way purple's like 13-17$ a quart! It. Better do what it say, LOL!

but yes bobistheoilguy.com is where to go.

Re: fav brand of oil/filter?

the reason i like valvoline and castrol is because my local auto parts stores always have deals on them, and they do a great job. i put thicker oil in for the winter (was using 5w-20, put 5w30 castrol syn blend) and in my opinion, it runs much better than when it had mobil 1 full synthetic. will be sticking with either this for all the time, or valvoline full syn.

What oil do you guys use?

also what are your thoughts on
best filter. honda filter right?
With regards to oil filters check out this review from the north texas prelude owner group. Very in depth comparison between numerous filter. The webpage is old but I bet it has a lot of still relevant info.

NTPOG Oil Filter Review

I run Mobil 1 extended mileage and a fram ultra. Switching to wix filter in my next oil change, based on the advice these guys gave you. Previous used penzoil platinum oil it burned oil quicker than Mobil 1

I've heard the whole s2000 filter being better is a myth never looked into it though.

Anyways I use Mobil 1 synthetic and a Fram filter. Never had a problem with it.
