Re: $1700!!!??? time to trade her in?

check engine light or any codes? im pretty sure if the atts throws any codes, it will just stop working. bad clutch shouldn't make it move in neutral. did they have the car on a hill when they tested that?

give us more specifics and we will try to help diagnose your car

Re: $1700!!!??? time to trade her in?

well if its just sensors, you should be able to do that yourself. speed sensor takes like 3 minutes to change with a very long (2-3 foot) extension on your socket wrench, and im not sure about the steering angle sensor, but in the 5th gen resources thread there is the online manual that you can download. in that manual there should be a whole section on the ATTS unit. i know how it is having little income and trying to work on your lude (high school student) but you can make it work if you put just a little bit of time and elbow grease into it.

Re: $1700!!!??? time to trade her in?

right. Would sensors cause my car to move in neutral? That sounds like a bigger problem than there saying it is cuz I read some forums and they were saying **** about like low fluid or if its dry it will cause it to bind and wanna move but I honestly have no idea what's wrong with my car if its some sensors this shoulda been happening the whole time but im hoping its not my atts goin out . Some days I can feel it working and some days I can't but the lights always on constantly it was at a point where it would disengage when shifting into 3rd gear for the first start up and if i was to go over 3500-4000 rpm it would back fire reeeeaaallly bad and high rev like a SOB and never do it again but then it went to being constantly on after a couple weeks

Re: $1700!!!??? time to trade her in?

you can buy a sweet Excedy clutch for under $500 , a few tools and some jack stands for less than $200 and learn to do it yourself.
If you have a manual car it is just part of the deal, like brake pads, tires, etc. clutch's wear out...no reason to trade the car in to spend more $$ on a differant car.

I did a clutch in my 99 LS1 z28 Camaro when i was in highschool cus I had no $ to pay anyone....that was ALOT harder than a Prelude. and i had no clue what i was doin.

If you do need a SH tranny i have one for sale id sell you for $200 no grinds, or pop outs

Dont pay anyone for something you can do yourself, even any ametuer could learn to do a clutch in a weekend

Re: $1700!!!??? time to trade her in?

hondatech.info: Honda service manuals

^^here's a link to honda tech where you can download the repair manual.
there's a thread here somewhere that a guy did a step by step, screw by washer overhaul of an atts. pix and all. i'd share that link too but my bookmarks didn't save when i upgraded to ice cream sandwich..

for now get your car back from the stealership, make sure your atts fluid level is good, put black tape over the atts lamp and drive it til it breaks. if it's just sensors it will drive just fine.

now the car jumping outta gear, that's a problem in your tranny. once again consult the threads here at pz and find a good mechanic. most good mechanics drive $h1+y cars because they spend all there time fixing others cars.

the backfiring? i dunno, explain that some more please.

in the meantime don't sweat it. i had a shop tell my tranmission won't gonna go another 100 miles. sold the car to a fellow who said oh yes it will. he drove coast to coast twice and wrote me a letter saying i couldn't buy it back for twice what i sold it to him for..

no offense to all you mechanics who drive good cars. it's just been my experience that some of the best mechanics i ever met drive crappy old beaters...

Re: $1700!!!??? time to trade her in?

That's how I am. I'd MUCH rather do it myself I dropped the car off at zimbrick with clutch drag after replacing the slave and master myself in a day they said I did a great job just needed to be bled more so I dont think its dragging anymore and if it wants to move in neutral that doesn't sound like a clutch to me that sounds more like a tranny and yes it is an SH with 166000 and why are you selling that for that cheap? Zimbrick said it was virtually impossible to find a tranny for my car unless i wanna spend a d*** load a money on it but i will keep that in mind if it does actually come down to the tranny and i guess im gonna have to do it myself im just gonna need to find a buddy's shop/garage that i can use.

Re: $1700!!!??? time to trade her in?

It didnt pop out of gear or nothin' but that whole disabling of the ATTS at 3rd gear was a mystery to me I would start my car no ATTS light drive down the road get to 3rd gear and the ATTS light would pop on and disable my ATTS at that instant and stayed on till I shut the car off again but if I was to just start my car no ATTS light and take above 4 or even near not exact on the RPM it would just act like its topping out the gear and make some nasty ass noises even if I were to take my foot off the gas it would still rev really bad it happened to me 3 times and then it starting staying on 24/7 no matter if its the first start up of the day just constantly on and haven't had a problem with it

Re: $1700!!!??? time to trade her in?

Id say run it , just start saving or looking for a used ATTS unit and or Tranny.

i just sold my ATTS unit and control module for $180

like i said looking for $200 for the M2U4 Tranny. too bad u are so far away,,, but they are around just look.

Could always convert to a base 5 speed also and forget about the ATTS

Re: $1700!!!??? time to trade her in?

^^$1700 is a typical stealership price and they do provide great service. if the mechanics that work there suck, they end up at merchants... or worse.
with that said there should be a good mechanic in any metropolis area willing to do the work for half that amount.

I'm in this boat now. The holden slave cylinder always fails, even if you don't beat on it. My 04 Goat same deal, no time and inner city, cant do repairs without somewhere to place fluids. 1000% harder than honda work 28k on the odometer too, so I still have a good clutch. Such a waste to just do the slave.

^^^this^^^ but atts is not straightfoward in comparison to no lsd.

1700 better include a first time girlfriend experience. Seriously.

Re: $1700!!!??? time to trade her in?

heres the ATTS codes i guess they pulled em for me but my car still feels like **** driving forward is fine and good but feels chunky goin in . but when i come to a stop sign i like to take my gears backwards like if i was in 4th i would go thru 3rd 2nd and then 1st by the time im stopped but when i do that my car wont let me i have to come to a complete stop before i can even do anything and even then i have to like jostle the stick around and play with all the gears for it to allow me back in. does that have to do with my syncros or is what there saying the cause? really bad throw outbearing

Why do you go backwards thru the gears? Brakes are cheaper than a clutch or transmission.

What? No buy motorcycle suggestions?

^^^this^^^ but atts is not straightfoward in comparison to no lsd.

1700 better include a first time girlfriend experience. Seriously.

It was on my SH with the ATTS, still $600 all together.

ok, so it isn't the vehicle speed sensor, its like the antilock brakes sensor that is on the steering knuckle. it looks like a little magnet near the cv axle on the inside of the steering knuckle. make sure it is there, and there isn't anything blocking it, could fix one of the codes you are getting. i am having a little trouble finding the wheel angle sensor
