a little help, car stays running

Ok so my car would sometimes shut it self off while driving, but now once in awhile ill go to shut the car off and she will stay running with the key out of the ignition and I'm not sure what it could be and I don't want to get shocked no more by pulling the coil wire off, any help would be great thanks

Re: a little help, car stays running

no. it was a defect from the factory, and they will replace it for free, then if it is malfunctioning again, they will replace it with another new one

Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JUNE 14, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009 OR ACURA AT 1-800-382-2238.

Re: a little help, car stays running

It's the ignition....Get it replaced.

Why isn't the failing auto under recall? Sure ass hell a more expensive problem for Preludes...

Re: a little help, car stays running

so if the stealership replaces the ignition, does that mean another key? i'm just thinking that those who didn't get the red key with their car, maybe that comes with the new ignition.
without the red key in order to have a working spare made one must have the anti theft system reset to match the new key. i was quoted $500 to have that done, plus the price of new keys at like $135 ea.

alas there is a way to bypass the system but your imobilizer no more worky.

i was actually thinking about that on the way home today. and i think that would be a question for the dealership. i don't know what all they replace, if it is the whole thing, or if there is just part they replace so you can continue to use your keys, or what. might be able to argue the price down, every time i have went there for service (on other vehicles) they add little charges, and they have always taken them off for me. like $60 to scan the engine codes.

Re: a little help, car stays running

If they replace the whole ignition then you will need a new key and new locks. The will probably fix the ignition without changing the key....or maybe they won't...

LOGICALLY though they should fix it without replacing all your goddamn keys and locks because that sounds like a lot more trouble and cost.

If they don't fix that **** for free, slap then in the face with your dick.

Re: a little help, car stays running

They would replace the ignition switch, which is behind, and turned by, the tumbler assembly. No new keys or locks.

And if mine hasn't been replaced before, will they turn me away because of mileage?
