need some help lost power, vtec dont kick in

Ok so long story short I traded thr lude got it back with less power then it had. The guy I got it from said he did the timing belt and did a valve adjustment. Idk I think the belt is the same but the valve adjustment I think he did was wrong and I think the valves are too tight? Im not sure if thats possible. All I know is a huge loss of power, and im wondering if aa valve adjustment can cause that. Any help would be great thanks.

I'd check the timing, sounds like it could be off a tooth.

try doing the timing over ,and valve adjustment should be done engine cold, valve adjustment have to on spec or it will change engine power and idle .

How do go about checking timing? And if tge timing is dead on, can the loss of power be because of the valve adjustment being done wrong?
