Ok I have a third gen. A guy has a 5th with atts. He has a oil leak under car and just from looking under car its a lot and bad.he says its the oil pan gasket and a friend of mine says its the cam and crank seals. It has 211k miles. And his check engine and atts light is on.I did read that when one light is on the other cones on. I saw their was a DIY way to check but everytime I click the link it never pulls up.I was think of trading my 3rd gen but my car looks new except for the paint job compared to his.so now I'm trade a v6 camero probably with him.

So any opinionson if I should waste my time fixing it all.and what not. I've always wanted a 5tg gen. But don't know of this gen is the one I should get

Replacing the oil pan gasket is a lot easier then cam seals. To tell if the cam seals are leaking is to take off the valve cover and remove the upper timing belt cover. You will be able to easily see and tell if the cam seals are leaking they shoul be dry and clean. If their wet with oil then that's your problem. While your down their might as well do a timing belt change, tensior, water pump, main seal change if that hasn't been replaced before. Also it could be your main seal which is in the same area as the cam seals which usaully is a really messy bad leak when it goes out. I can't tell in the pic but I don't think that's a oil pan leak.

Re: opinion plzz

i have a 3rd and a 5th. i like each for different reasons.
i like driving the 5th, but feel more part of the experience with the 3rd.

if you have a nice car that's pretty much maintenance minimum, keep it. there are plenty of 5th gen's out there so be patient. the atts is an expensive boat anchor once busted. and if the motor leaks like you describe with 200k+ that's definitely gonna be a boat anchor soon.

camaro v6? why?!!! another money pit. go to the junkyard. look around. notice all the hondas are crashed while the chevys look great. there's a reason for that. look at used car lots. someone elses headache fills the lot.. notice camaro's galore.

all that gliiters is not gold. ponder that for a few ticks.

if you decide to go 5th go base 5 speed. much less hassle, much more modifyable than s.h.
i love my s.h. but wouldn't reccomend buying one to an enemy, much less a friend.
i knew what i was buying when i bought mine for the most part. the kid lied about a couple of things that didn't matter to me anyway. but i knew it was a solid well used money pit for a good price. so i bought it to rekindle an old urge to play with my auto tools and drive a life sized hot wheels car from time to time.
the 3rd gen was a daily driver for a few years and could still be but isn't.

keep the 3rd, save and get it painted.

Re: opinion plzz

GM hatin as usual. V6's are not the best engine, but in the 5 speed, it's decent. The atts unit is a PITA cause it will limit your builds to 250 whp. Get it to drive a fun car, it'll deliver. You need to inspect the car and fluids to see if any red flags come up. my.02$, good luck!
