I had a magnaflow muffler with a 2.5 out on the stock piping....it was actually really quiet.

Re: Muffler idea

Videos of exhausts sound a lot different in person. It wouldn't hurt to try but then you can also get some larger piping and weld that together.

Re: Muffler idea

don't confuse your ecu with all those pipe sizes... drill a hole in your muffler and enjoy straight pipe noise.

want noise? but a lespaul. want performance? buy a new exhaust .

Doubtful. Most of us are running either stock exhaust or a cat-back or a full custom exhaust. It is uncommon to put an aftermarket muffler on a stock exhaust on a prelude.

Why?

Because there is zero increase in performance. When I bought my prelude, it came with an axle-back dual tip angled up that was loud and annoying. Everyone thought I was trying to race them.

If you are dead set on putting the muffler on, I would find a used axle-back section, cut off the stock muffler and weld on the new one. This way, you can always go back to stock if you don't like how it sounds.

Re: Muffler idea

It all depends on the size baffle it has. Forget about the inlet/outlet size when considering how loud it will be...

But yeh I don't see why it would uncommon to replace just the muffler if you want a better sound, it was free just had to get it welded.

Do you people even read the previous posts, how else could you answer the questions????????

me: "no baffles"
You "It depends on what baffles it has"

Me "I have really crappy 2.25" in 2.5" out muffler on their now and you can barely hear it.... "
You: "Cut off the stock muffler"

Anyways, I'll get around to posting the pics up in my Members ride thread, if anyone is interested.

Your smart ass reply tells me that you didn't comprehend what I said.

EVERY muffler has a baffle. If it were straight through, it's called a PIPE not a muffler. Unless your piece of **** was completely gutted, if so than i'm impressed as to how the previous owner managed that one....

Now, post a picture of the damn muffler and tell me the overall diameter of the ****ing thing. I already know the inlet size is 2.5" and the outlet is 4" So the inner pipe of the muffler is anywhere from 2.5" to 3" in diameter since the outlet pipe is typically .5-1" larger than the inner pipe. Is it magic that the muffler changes diameter so drastically between the inlet and outlet?!?!?! Wait, hold up just a minute, must mean there's a baffle of some sort!!!

The larger the baffle, the deeper the tone. The smaller the baffle, the higher the pitch of the noise on your rice rocket. A typical round muffler with a 5" or so overall diameter at the largest point will sound like **** outside the car at higher rpm's- they always sound better from the inside than the outside.
