How much should I pay?

I finally came to the conclusion that I cannot fix my oil leak with my lack of mechanical experience. Tomorrow I am going to the local mechanic for the second time to get a quote, his first quote was $400 to $500 to repair my cam seal leak and put in a new water pump and do a timing belt job. Does this sound reasonable? How many hours would it take to do such a job? How much would the parts cost? How much do you think I should pay, or have you paid for such a job? Thanks in advance!

Re: How much should I pay?

"I got quoted around $800 for just the timing belt and water pump at my local honda dealership."

thats pretty usual

$400 seems low which is good but make sue he is reputable. Ask him if he frequently works on imports and search google and see if you can find any reviews on his shop

Re: How much should I pay?

That's a good price to do the T-belt job and seals, especially if that includes all the parts. Also have him change the front main seal

Re: How much should I pay?

Seems reasonable to me. You should also change the auto tensioner / or convert it to a manual tensioner while he's in there. While he's at it have him check and replace oil seals as required. If it leaks, replace it! Square all of this away and you should be good for quite awhile.

Re: How much should I pay?

I've got an oil leak at a seal behind the timing belt so my mech. is charging $300 labor in central IL- no cam seals but all other new seals, belt tensioner and water pump for that not including parts.

You need to make friends with somebody that turns wrenches for a living. But still not bad pricing IMO.
