Need help getting this car started!

Ok so some might remember me having an overheating issue awhile back.. Its been a head job, then overheating, and now this stupid starting issue.
No its not the starter or battery first off!!!!!!!!..
I figured out I have to jam the gas pedal down in order to start it, and Ive been doing that the last few days to be able to drive it. But today its a no go. Its not working... When it does start it misfires for awhile until I rev it up (could be due to flooding) But the car will crank and crank until it just stops..
I really need some ideas or possibly a fix! I thought possibly the fast idle thermo valve, or fuel pump? i dunno .. Any help is appreciated!

Re: Need help getting this car started!

We have checked the timing, its dead on and the distributor is new and working.
We have fire going to the plugs, we must have fuel because the plugs have fuel all over them, i can hear the pump also. ( There have been no signs of pump failure either and as soon as the car turns on, it runs amazingly fine)
These are a few things we have narrowed it down to but still unsure.
Crank sensor (just dont know how that works on our cars)
The other weird symptom is that as we are cranking it and stop, only header pipe #4 gets hot. The rest are cold. Which makes me think only 1 cylinder is igniting?
Any thoughts on that?

Re: Need help getting this car started!

Two things you might check are the TDC sensor which is located at the crankshaft and the igniter. No TDC sensor = no start and bad igniter = no start. TDC sensor usually throws a code, there is no code for igniter. Check for spark to rule out the igniter. Good luck.

Re: Need help getting this car started!

I believe a bad TDC, CKP, and CYP would all throw a CEL.
I just replaced my CKP in the STi last month due to a similar problem, was taking forever to start on occasion. But that threw a CEL.

Where'd you check timing- Flywheel, or timing belt? Or both?

And what'd you do to the engine BEFORE hard starting issue? An entire head job?
