I have a 2000 prelude and I just had a clutch and exhaust put on. About 550 miles after gettin it done I was doin a speed run. I was at about 7000 rpm and the vtec stop pullin but it made a extremely loud noise. Does anyone have any ideas on wut this could be???

Re: Vtec Problems

Seriously;

1) What kinda noise?

2) What gear/speed where you in? 7000rpm in first gear doin 15mph is alottttttttt diff than 7000rpm in 5th gear doin 150mph.

3) Please sell your car to someone whose not an idiot whose not all about doing "speed runs"

Re: Vtec Problems

Damn I have no idea but my car used to disable my ATTS whenever I shifted into 3rd after just starting it. If i took it anywhere near 4 grand in first or second it would make the nastiest most excruciating noise like i just bent every valve in my motor but it was just protecting itself and shut the ATTS off so maybe your car was just saying hey FU** you . If it doesn't keep doing it i wouldn't worry

Re: Vtec Problems

its anytime i hit around 5500 it makes the hollow vtec sound thats only way i can describe the sound. I've thought about maybe some bent valves?? but i've never had any valve problems before so idk how it sounds when valves get messed up.

Re: Vtec Problems

I disagree. Asking a question to what might be a complex problem with no info would be like me asking you how fast a stock Civic is, without telling you anything else like 1/4 mile, 1/8 mile, year, motor, etc.

EXACTLY, it's a honda, not a Bugatti Veyron!
Honda, known to be one of the slowest, most practical, econo-box car companies ever. Not 250+mph speed demons.

Re: Vtec Problems

Well I mean my car is a f*cking rocket compared to the neighbors' golf cart. That's pretty sweet, right?

M3's aren't fast by any measure. "Almost had a chance", in regular, non-ricer speak, roughly translates to "I had my lunch money stolen and was given repetitive swirlies in a filthy locker room toilet, in a metaphorical sense where I got bullied hardcore by a car of vast superiority to mine".

Of course, I'm just being a dick. We drive Honda Preludes. They aren't fast by any means without forced induction. The sooner we accept that, the sooner we can love our cars.

Okay, that was quite dick of me again.

OP: Any idea where the noise is coming from, location-wise? Does it sound higher up or down low?

If you're going to call me a douche, you can at least do yourself a favor and spell it correctly.

"Quick" cars run 13's or less.

"Fast" cars run 10's or less.

"Slow" cars can't break the 13's without juice or boost.
