head gasket replacement

I blew the head gaskets with the heater core hose breaking. Do I need to get new head bolts? Can I install new rod bearings and install OEM stock rings when I have it accessible? I only want to drop the pan and push the piston out, swap the rod bearings and rings and anchor it back together.

I figured that with 135K miles, this is better than using the worn bearings and rings.

Opinions and help would be appreciated.

Re: head gasket replacement

Yes, you need new headstuds. The stockers are stretch bolts and once they get torqued down to spec, are not going to give the proper required torque the second time after they've stretched.
If you're just doing an OEM rebuild, there's no need for ARP studs, OEM will be fine.

ASSUMING the cylinder walls are in ok condition, yes you can put new rings in. But with the block still in the car is going to be a biiittchhh to measure the cylinders, especially checking the ring gap.

Rod bearings... its gonna be pretty easy measuring the ID of the bearings, since the rods will be outta the engine. Buy mic'ing the crank still in the engine isn't gonna be fun, if possible at all. Sounds like plastigage is gonna be your only tool for checking oil clearances.
