sexy rumble after a timing belt job, normal?

Did a DIY timing belt job and feel like I did a damn good job, everything went well. Only thing is, that my car seems to sound different now... These things are always hard to explain but I can describe vibrations coming through the steering wheel and pedals and a low rumble at lower RPMs that weren't so prominent before the job. No whining sounds or anything that would cause me to worry though. Any ideas? Is that normal?

Cheers.

sounds like the timing might be off by a few degrees.

I don't think the car would be running if that were the case or just run super shiiiiiiity cause I was off by 1 tooth on mine and it barely ran. Could possibly recheck everything to make sure it's tight. Also, did you swap in a new auto tenisoner or change over to a manual? Running the balancer belt or left it off?

I've seen them 3 degrees or so off and still run relatively smooth.
Good call on the tensioner and balance shaft... interested in the response from the OP

+1 on double checking the timing, might only be off by one or two teeth.

I am really confident on the timing there. I did this with my father and we had that **** dialed in aha. The cams were right on, I don't think we could get it any more TDC.

Installed a new auto tensioner, I realize manual is better but wasn't into making this job more complicated than it needed to be. Also, running the balancer belt, both front and rear shafts TDC. Why would someone leave that off?

Re: sexy rumble after a timing belt job, normal?

Can you do the timing with a timing light ?

just a question did you happen to remove the dizzy ? if so maybe just the tiniest bit of it moved?

i reckon you got all the teeth into place if it were 1 tooth of it would run like a bucket of crap and you would be scared to even take it out the drive way and as you said you had a second pair of eyes to double cheek to cheek if that **** was dialed in :)

how long did it take you just curious ?

Well yea BEFORE you started the motor, everything was prolly @ TDC.

But after the motor ran for a lil bit, or even maybe right on startup, there coulda been enough slack in the belt (or some other reason) to make the t-belt skip just one tooth from when you checked it with the motor off.

Quickest thing to do is simply take the VC off, see if both cams are @ TDC. And if you also have the crank pulley tool, that's also a very easy job now that you just took if off a day ago. Make sure the crank and cams are @ TDC at the same time.
