Icon8 330km on a full tank?!

So my 97 lude gets around 330-350km off a full tank with very careful driving. I know this is WAY below what it should be.. Any ideas on a fix? I know some people are getting 600+ ..

This is becoming quite costly, so any help appreciated. Thanks guys!

Re: 330km on a full tank?!

Sounds pretty Low to me, I know my 00' 5spd base on about 90% highway driving 100-140km/h got just under 700km, i think it was like 660-680, full tank of 91 supreme. Could've got too 700km or a over but next gas station wasnt for a while on the highway.

Intown i can get about 450-500 on a completly topped off tank of 91. And i do like my vtec. When im really spirited I can have most of a tank gone by 300-350km lol.

This is completely stock aswell if it matters.

Re: 330km on a full tank?!

My H22A gets about 375 to a tank on 94 (I'm in Canada). I had a couple notches left without the gas light on with about 325? So I'm guessing it would last for another ~50KM before I ran out. It's cold now too so I'm spending more time idling to warm up the engine as well. I wish I could get 500+....

Re: 330km on a full tank?!

I just got 360 miles on 13.6 gallons. So, about 580km/51.5 liters

I did, however, just get my H23A tuned on Neptune.

But I would start with a tune up (spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter) make sure your ignition timing is correct.

Re: 330km on a full tank?!

change the way you drive...

a few tips:
1. cold starts: let your engine warm up to operating temp before you start your drive. when the engine is cold, it puts more strain on the engine, and requires more fuel than it should, resulting in poor gas mileage.
2. Acceleration: the faster you accelerate, the higher your engine speeds rise in a shorter amount of time. usually this is the case with younger drivers trying to beat everyone off the line at a red light, everyone, and yes that means grandma driving the whopping 100hp car next to you revving her engine due to her shaking feet sitting on the gas pedal.
3. shifting: in an automatic, using the sport shift option to get higher rpms out of every gear will result in bad gas mileage. in a manual, same thing applies but you control the shifting.

those are the first things to take a look at, do you fall under any of these catergories?

if yes and you changed, but still bad mileage keep reading
if no then keep reading.

common things that can result in bad gas mileage, especially in high mileage cars can be a few different things.
fuel injectors, egr ports, lower or higher octane fuel, fuel pumps, unclean air filter, bad oxygen sensors, spark plugs, air conditioning, and even motor oil.

ill do a writeup on all of this including repairs on getting better gas mileage since this seems to be a frequently asked question.

Re: 330km on a full tank?!

in my state we have some good gas and some bad gas..
my local sheetz has 10% ethanol minimum. a nearby bp has some additive that my vehicles like. they get 15-40 more miles per tank full with the bp depending on cold weather etc. where i live you get what you pay for with auto fuel.

sounds like maybe you need a tune up like the folks above stated. it used to be a tune up was plugs, wires, rotar cap, points, air filter and an oil change. 97 cars have stuff that clogs from emissions reductions or crappy fuel (ethanol blended gasoline). i don't know if canada has ethanol.

is this a new issue for you? check engine light on? vacuum leak?
