Passenger mirror dead

I've searched the forums and can't find any posts about diagnosing a dead power mirror on my passenger door. The car's not been wrecked, nor has the door panel been off and there are no blown fuses. I'm electrically challenged, so I'm hoping one of you can tell me where to start and how to diagnose the problem?

Re: Passenger mirror dead

I'll start there. I wondered if this has happened to anyone and what it was. I had such great luck with my ignition tumbler post.

Re: Passenger mirror dead

Shouldn't be too difficult -- there's not much to it. Switch, motor, and the wiring that connects them to power.

Re: Passenger mirror dead

pop the switch out of your center console and check the connection... take a video of everything you do if you really need a lot of help understanding. but that would be one of the connections easiest to check. if you cant pop it out easily, you may need to remove the center console piece and pop it out from the inside, or use a screw driver. check the wires to the mirror itself. pop the plastic cover piece off the corner where the mirror sits (inside the car.) to check the connection there. check and replace fuse. sometimes fuses go bad and cant give proper amps to the device to run it, without noticeably going bad. last and hardest things to check would be the wiring under the dash and everything leading from fuse box to switch to mirror... but check the connections i mentioned first.

also check the harnesses for any corrosion near the metal connector pieces and the wires if possible and accessible for any corrosion. that can cause bad connection and can eventually lead to an accessory not working due to restriction of the flow of electrons. If thats the case, then the wiring is bad and will need to be replaced, and the harnesses should be cleaned, and if thats not possible, then replaced.
