Broken belt!!

So yesterday i was driving home and i noticed this nasty sound that sounded like rattling plastic. I got home and i noticed the belt that connects the AC compressor, the alternator, and whatever else is split down the middle. Im trying to drive the car as little as possible and im hopefully gonna have a friend help me replace it today but I need to know what kind of labor goes into this change. And what exactly is this part called? (serpentine belt?) Also, if the belt were to snap, what kind of damage could it do? Its a 5th gen base. Thanks!

Re: Broken belt!!

it shouldn't cause much damage. my mom's 2005 honda odyssey van had the auto tensioner start to fail, then the belt started to slip and got split, then one day just broke and snapped the tensioner off.

i believe they are v belts on the 5th gen. cant go out to the parking lot right now to see. but v belts are very easy to replace. i think on these it is just unscrewing one of the adjusting bolts on the alternator and ac compressor to get the belt off

Re: Broken belt!!

It's your accessory belt. Has nothing to do with the timing belt, nor do you have to take the timing belt off to get to it. Easy fix.

Re: Broken belt!!

19.99 belt at autozone takes like 15 minutes to replace, also smart to replace your powersteering belt while your at it.
