Light dangling from under very rear of car

I just had some body work done. When I got home I noticed a little light bulb (a bit smaller than an xmas light) attached and dangling from a thick black wire. From under the center of the ass of the car.

When the car is turned on, the light is on. What is this thing, it seems to serve no purpose

Re: Light dangling from under very rear of car

sounds like the light that goes above your license plate

edit: there is a circular lens just above the license plate held on by 2 phillips screws. that light you're talking about twists in from above that. might be easier to take off the lens first.

Thanks,

I managed to get it into the lens, but now the light doesnt seem to want to turn on, perhaps I f***** up the wiring or it was already weak. Damn

Try replacing the bulb? Or the lens are dirty, I know mines were.

Did you touch the bulb with your fingers? If so, it blew. Do not touch halogen bulbs with your bare fingers. Hold it with a paper towel. The oils on your hands and fingers will stick to the glass, causing it to pop when the bulb heats up.

Re: Light dangling from under very rear of car

Those lights aren't halogen. Only the headlights on our cars are Halogen bulbs. You can fondle and jack off 194/168 bulbs as well as the 7443s we use for turn signals and brake lights all day, they won't blow. The H1 bulbs we use for headlights ARE Halogen, you avoid touching those.

But that is your license plate light, and the socket is probably pretty tricky, as my 99 has the same problem occasionally. Maybe wiggle it around, if that doesn't work, you can (VERY CAREFULLY) use a screw driver to bend the contacts in farther to tighten up the connection. Good luck.
