Light tune on a 98 prelude with 140k

Hey guys,

Well....I think I'm getting my car today. I went to the dealer and gave em heck. lol!

I was wondering :

Whats the best oil to use for a prelude with 140k miles on it
Sparkplugs
Sparkplug wires
Cap
Rotor
Coil

I want to give it a nice little tune up once I have it to get the best possible MPG. Do any of you average more than 19.4 miles to the gallon?

Thanks guys

i average about 25mpg i use castrol syntec 5w30, denso iridium plugs, msd plugwires, and honda cap, rotor, and coil. check your local honda dealer, they had an emissions recall on some models where they do a full tune up on it for free.

JLUDE has a spectacular aura aboutJLUDE has a spectacular aura aboutJLUDE has a spectacular aura about
19.4mpg!??? OUCH!

I get 26.5 mpg commuting and hit a record of 34mpg on a highway road trip this summer with my stock engine 5 speed 2001 lude.

Most cases of people getting these terrible gas mileage numbers are people who only drive in town, short distances each time and if that's not your case you might want to consider changing your primary O2 sensor. they are $45 from www.sparkplugs.com. I've heard of tired O2 sensors causing bad gas mileage long before they throw a Check Engine Code.

In addition I would do the following for a tune up at 140K

1. New fuel filter
2. Valve adjustment! (gave me an extra 2 mpg!)
3. New plugs, wires, cap and rotor
4. check for dragging brake pads! feel the center of each wheel after a drive and make sure that both fronts are the same temperature (to touch) and both rears are the same to touch. The front should be hotter than the rears.
5. Make sure you are running 32 - 35 psi in all 4 tires
6. Air filter
7. Change Coolant
8. Flush and bleed brakes
9. Flush and bleed clutch fluid
10. Change transmission oil

I would recommend using a good conventional 5W30 for your motor oil. Using synthetic on a higher mileage H22A4 is not recommended since it leaks easier and your seals are likely tired...unless you want oil leaks stick with conventional, I use Castrol GTX when I want a good conventional oil.
