Unknown Hose and Plug

I just purchased this car and the previous owner installed an AEM SR intake.

I noticed that this hose was just hanging there so I taped it up.

I tried to follow the hose and it goes way down the backside of the motor which then led me to uncover this plug which appears to be missing a connector.

Any help as to what each of these parts are would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Unknown Hose and Plug

welcome to pz..
are you like jack johnson the boxer? the singer perhaps?
post some pix of your car please..pearl white rox!
far as those hoses go i could guess but instead invite you to the download the prelude service manual pdf society. the drawings in it will answer those questions and many more.
also a search engine will be your friend for diy and prelude issues.
if the car runs ok no need to be concerned what those hoses used to do because they don't do that anymore..
when i got my sh i spent hours n hours scouring under the hood, the car, the trunk, the carpets etc taking mental notes as i did it..this unplugged, that cracked etc. the i downloaded from honda tech the prelude manuals for my car and studied them at night..
take photos, write notes of what is where, and soon you'll be a prelude junkie

Re: Unknown Hose and Plug

Trace the line out. Being in that location, it almost looks like the line for the EGR, but it's hard to tell.

The plug under the intake is a dead end plug for the injectors. Leave it alone - it's supposed to be like that.

Re: Unknown Hose and Plug

Thanks guys. Really appreciate it. I will definitely get a pdf copy of the haynes manual when I get a chance.

The car currently is sitting with a P1399 CEL and is misfiring in cylinder 3 that is why I am on this witch hunt. I started another thread about the MSD Ignition removal as I am trying to figure this bastard out. Compression test on a warmish engine came in strange at 170-160-150-160 but that reading was from a compression tester with no valve core so i couldn't really get a steady reading. It was all I had and just wanted a ball park for the time being.

Anyways here is a picture of the RSX-S muffler I just put it. It gave me some low end power back... actually a lot I should say. The old Greddy EVO muffler is sitting beside it.

I am not a fan of the wheels it came with and will be looking for a set of 17inch RSX-S rims soon. Overall the car is in great shape with only 53 thousand kms. I have an OEM front lip ready to go on as well.

Re: Unknown Hose and Plug

That vacuum line looks like it's for the IAB system on an H23A1 (92-96 Si) But it's on an H22... Did they swap out the intake manifold?

Re: Unknown Hose and Plug

I don't think so. The IM is still the original. I was reading the helms manual briefly last night but haven't been able to narrow it down yet.

Re: Unknown Hose and Plug

i copied manual on a dell duo 10" computer. its dual use so when fingers are dirty keyboard gets dirty. fingers clean, touch screen used. on my 97 it's mostly stock so it's ez to remember my unknowns like what's this hose do. it doubles as a 10" monitor screen for photos.
i'm just now studying my 91 for restoring to mostly stock. the previous owner did some wiring mods that are sloppy at best. the computer stays near the engine bay during the evaluation process. also aids in adding to the to do list.

during the 1st month of owning the sh i obssesed the manual. it's on my phone, tablet and cpu.

Re: Unknown Hose and Plug

Yeah that is a good idea. I actually fell asleep reading it last night because I got home pretty late but still wanted to do some research.

Been crazy busy but hopefully I will get more time in the coming weeks. I actually bought the car about 2 months ago but just got time now to start tinkering with it.

Re: Unknown Hose and Plug

Just thought I would update this.. but I'm sure no one really cares.. Well, its about 7 months later and I've finally had the time to work on the lude

Still haven't been able to trace the source of that mystery hose but I will get there. I was able however to resolve the source of the random misfire. Seems that the valve clearances were WAYYYYY out of spec which was causing the car to sound like a Subaru upon cold startup. It was a mixed bag, some clearances were too tight, some too lose. One thing that I did notice was that the adjusting nut was not as tight as they should have been in most cases. Not sure if this caused tightening/loosening when the heat expands/contracts the metals.

Anyways, there is no more CEL/ATTS light and the car idles very smooth now. I am so relieved as I kept reading all of these horror stories about head gaskets and did not want to deal with that headache.

One word of advice I can offer to anyone else attempting to adjust their valve clearances without the special Honda tool is to set the clearance to spec, finger tighten the nut, then undo the screw about 1/4 turn and refinger tighten the nut.

When you use the socket to tighten the nut, it should turn the screw enough to land back at the desired clearance. Then recheck with the feeler gauges. Takes some trial and error but this method usually worked in 2-3 attempts. I know still a pain in the ass but it works.
