The time has come...

for my suspension to be upgraded from some ****ty springs on stock struts that the dumb previous owner did. It is time. I've been wanting to upgrade to some coil-overs since day one of owning my lude back more than 2 years ago when I joined this site. Dun dun dun. But anyways I want to have good handling for those random spirited driving days. I want to auto-x but probably not happening. I daily drive my car and plan on dropping it till my tires are tug to my wheels. I'm running 215/45/17 on 35 offset I believe. I'm debating between function and from type 2's and gc and koni setup. I'm going GC/Koni route since I trust them and they back there product up and are more about performance than appearance and looks in my opinion. The max spring rating on GC on Koni yellows is 500. The out of shelve GCs are 380F 250R for some improved handling and comfort.

I was thinking 430F and 300R. What do you guys think? I don't mind sacrificing some comfort for handling but don't want to completely hate little imperfections in the road. I'll be getting ingals camber kit for the front most likely especially if I really need it.

PS I did my research... just want more opinions before dropping $900.

I run the GC/Koni set up on my car and I love it....it's 100% worth the money. I ended up going stiffer in the rear (400F/450R) to help overcome some of the understeer our cars are notorious for.

I've heard good things about Function form type 1's for daily driving some people say they love them and some people say they wish they would of got type 2's instead for the damping function the price difference is 300 bucks. I've also heard good things about Ksport .

I'm going GC/Koni for sure then! How does it feel comfort wise? Do you feel all the imperfections in the road? or not really?

If anything I would go Function and Form but even though they look nicer than GC/Koni imo and GC is made in USA with custom spring rating and lifetime warranty

Re: The time has come...

It depends on how you set them up. If I soften them up all the way, it rides ridiculously smooth even with the stiff spring rates. On the opposite end of the spectrum, if I put them on the hardest setting, ill feel EVERYTHING on the road. And I mean everything haha.

Clutch is on a distinguished road
Re: The time has come...

I WAS going to get GC/Koni until I got quoted about $1050 for the set from Ground Control already pre set and what not. I searched around but the best I could find was around $940 without tax.

I ended up getting F2 Type 1's. I'm happy with them.

Alright good to hear! And by softening them up you do that on the Koni Yellows correct? Through the little dampening valve on them? And you really feel like having the rear springs stiffer really does help with the over steer? I'm going to order them in this week :D

Really? I looked around and found the whole set up under 900! Thanks for the info. Im leaning a lot more toward GC/KONI right now

Re: The time has come...

Being stiffer in the rear definitely helps with the understeer problems. Add a nice thick rear swaybar and you'll have to worry about oversteer instead of understeer (which is good).

because most of people here buy em and I dont have heard stories about ANY issues! Ive have had BC for 1 years now and there has been no problems

some race teams use them succesfully!

same factory makes ksport than d2, and their quality isnt that good...like for example Ive seen how d2 rust and breaks, thats the reason why people
have started to buy BC here

and ksport after 9 months use

I'll stick with my gc/Koni setup over any of these. Although i did consider the bc coilovers, but they were really new products at the time and kind of unproven. Good to know that peeps have options.

2009 is when I bought my Koni/GC setup. I remember seeing a thread on Honda-Tech introducing the BC Racing coilovers about that same time, they were really new at the time and I didn't want to end up being stuck with crappy coilovers. Hindsight is 20/20...but either way I think I would've gone with the Koni/GC set up...it's proven itself countless times. Maybe I'll try out some BC's when I get another Prelude...hopefully by then they have a new (and improved) design for our chassis.

Bad companies:
Function&Form - They have made strides, but they appeal to the kiddies who want to slam their cars and don't care about much else. I've seen numerous posts over the years about leaking shocks being shipped to them, or leaking immediately afterwards. 1 year warranty. Edit: If you really just need something shiny, it's probably the best piece of crap on the market. A lot of people have success with them, but consider a lot of people who slam their cars have no regard for ride comfort and likely wouldn't even know if all of their shocks were blown.
Ksport - Can't tell you how many broken/leaking/etc ksport I've seen here. For that kind of money there are much better options.
D2- Comes out of the same factory as ksport. As far as I know they're identical in construction. I've got a whole collection of pictures of broken/blown/leaking pictures of D2 and Ksport.

Screw that I don't want that. The main thing I want is handling, followed by the stance, then comfort. I feel like those company's just create a product to make a profit but really don't go the "extra" mile to give you something worth your money. Therefore I'm going to save up for some Koni yellows and then I'll save up for Ground Control sleeves and last but not least a front camber kit. :) Thanks a lot guys. I appreciate it.

What are you getting a camber kit for? Are you worried about tire wear?

Re: The time has come...

You don't need a camber kit, just get an alignment. A little too much negative camber will not hurt a tire, however the excessive toe-in that comes with lowering a car WILL destroy tires, and very quickly at that. Check this out:

No, you DO NOT need camber kits!!!!!!!! - Honda-Tech

TL;DR - Just get an alignment.

I knew it! Thanks a lot. Save me 100+. I've just heard so much mixed thoughts on this subject. I was for sure getting an alignment though and I know whatever shop I go to will tell me I "need" a camber kit for an alignment but I know that's not true. Definitely giving you rep points. lol This means my suspension will be upgraded sooner!

Re: The time has come...

No problem man. I agonized over buying a camber kit for weeks until I found that thread.

Re: The time has come...

So function form is a no no? I really don't want to spend 1000 bucks on coilovers since I only DD my car and maybe only a 2 inch drop at the most.
Sorry for thread jacking AcedPrelude.
