stiff/hard clutch issue?

Well I'm trying to trade my car for a 97 GST and the guy complained saying that my clutch engaged weird and my clutch was too hard. He said it might be the slave cylinder but I doubt it. He said it grabs weird and is different from his. I drove his car and his clutch was way easier to press down. Whats wrong with my clutch? Does my pedal just need adjusting?

Re: stiff/hard clutch issue?

I'm assuming you have a Prelude...

Every car has a different feel to the clutch. Some cars have hydraulic clutch systems, some don't. Hydraulic systems are generally easier to push the clutch on. The clutch it self effects when and how it grabs based on how new it is and what stage it is.

Keep that in mind when the clutch of another car feels different from your own, but I assume you already know this too.

It's probably not a hydraulics problem because then your clutch pedal would drop to the ground, but then again, you never know.

You can adjust your pedal slightly, but it shouldn't make too much of a difference.

Re: stiff/hard clutch issue?

I know clutches are different, I just got used to mine and felt it was the norm. I guess I was wrong haha, I'm going to get it checked out tomorrow so I'll see whats wrong.

Re: stiff/hard clutch issue?

I driven ek's, eg's and a geo metro lol and all of them had wayyy softer clutch than my bb6. SO most likely normal.

There is no "normal". Like was stated, every car is different. That guy with the GST is simply a bishhh

Re: stiff/hard clutch issue?

if the problem was the slave cylinder or master cylinder the clutch would not disengage.

I just got a Prelude, and it is way different than any other manual.

Re: stiff/hard clutch issue?

My 'lude has an incredibly mild-mannered clutch when compared to all the 240's I had.

Re: stiff/hard clutch issue?

I have no idea if the clutch is stock. I bought it off a friend and he's unsure as well. I'm going to have it checked out today.

Re: stiff/hard clutch issue?

was gonna ask what schmitty asked. some girls are softer than others. same goes for clutches..
does it engage positive like or all whimpy?
my ranger has a pillowy soft stock clutch that your knee is almost to your chin before you go..
my sh on the other hand has a brutal aftermarket clutch that fights back.
it's stiff! but when you mash on the gas and let off the clutch you'd better be aiming where you wanna go..
