Official: How to Detail your car

Detailing a car, it's not as hard as it sounds, please don't take your cars to those drive thru washes, it does more harm than good, sure it makes it look clean but in reality it's scratching your paint. Unless of course, it's a touchfree wash. I'm gonna list a few things that you can do to make your car look as clean as possible and protected.

First, wash your freaking car bi-weekly at least! Some good products I recommend are Turtle Wax Ice Car Wash, it get's the job done if your car is pretty clean, it can be found pretty much anywhere and it's cheap. My personal favorite Car wash is Chemical Guys Citrus Wash & Gloss, it is super concentrated so a little goes a long way, this can be found at Autogeek.net

Next, clay your car! Do this only twice a year though, paint will be more shiny if it is more smooth. What clay does is it removes small contaminants that normal washing cannot remove, have you ever rubbed your hand above your paint and heard a sandy noise? With clay it makes it so smooth that you can't hear it. It is definitely worth it. I would recommend Mothers Clay Bar Kit, it comes with 2 clay bars a towel and Detail spray.

Next is wax or a paint sealant. Wax is made from carnauba, it generally lasts about a month or two but the shine is nice and deep. A paint sealant is a synthetic wax that lasts anywhere from 4-6 months it doesn't give a shine as deep as a carnauba wax, it is more of a reflective look. Now, which one is better? It's up to you. A wax would be better for someone who wants to make their car look good for a short while, a paint sealant is more inclined for someone who wants good protection on their vehicle and yet still possess a shine, I am personally more of a paint sealant guy. Now, what if you want the best of both worlds? You can add a wax on top of a paint sealant but you have to wait anywhere from 12-24 hours for that. A wax i like is Blackfire Midnight Sun Wax, it is pricey but definitely worth it! The paint sealant I use and love is Blackfire Wet Diamond All Finish Paint Protection, nothing has ever made my car shine like this stuff!

Next, all purpose cleaner or degreaser. Honestly anything works as long as you dilute it properly, if you dont it will dry whatever you spray it on.

Next, black trim, engine bay, wheel wells and tires. Honestly if you have a bottle of Armorall I would say just use it for wheel wells, I honestly hate that stuff, it's greasy and too shiny. Now, for everything else I would say use CarPro PERL, this stuff is awesome! It can be diluted to your liking of shine, a little goes a long way! For wheels I would recommend two applications.

As far as interior is concerned, simply vacuum your car, wipe down the dash and door panels with CarPro PERL, again, a little goes a long way. And clean your windows and mirrors with an ammonia free glass cleaner such as SprayWay glass cleaner!

This is just a few things that will make your car look like show car quality and keep it protected from UV rays and such things. I know I didn't get into polishing and things like that but if upon request I will make another thread for that. If you have any questions about how to apply these things take a quick read on Auto Detailing Facts, auto detailing Tips, How to detailing Guides, how to polish, how to wax, DIY detailing, do it yourself guides this site will give you so much more insight on the things I talked about. Thank you guys, hopefully this wasn't too long of a read!
