Snow!!!!!!!

Well we got first snow today and although it won't stay for more than 5 minutes...., it does remind me that I should prep my lude for winter.

I'd rather not drive it in winter, but I have no choice so I'm wondering if anyone here has any tips on how to keep it clean and rust safe in winter?

Re: Snow!!!!!!!

I hate it too...I parked my other lude because its low plus a few suspension issues might make it unsafe for winter driving otherwise id drive it.

not much you can do unless you took your sweet time and undercoated the chassis and spent a small fortune and 3M'd the panels.

I've heard of people WD40'ing known potential rust areas every other tank of gas as a way of keeping moisture out as well. Also washing it every week and not letting dirt/grime get caked on the paint.

This. Especially if you've been driving through fresh snow or slush and they've salted the roads -- that's what gets trapped in gaps and eats holes in the metal. Get the car good and warm (even just being out in the sun helps) before washing it, and keep it warm until it's dry.

So I should just regular car wash and drive around for a bit after on a sunny day? Temperatures get down to -30 here so I'm kind of skeptical on the whole coat my car in ice thing.

Last week we went from -5 to +20 in 5 hours.

YOUR argument is invalid.

Right now it's +1 and snowing.

P.S. I'm talking degrees Celsius.

washing makes just everything freeze.

just get your whole car coated with anticorrosive, theres not much else what you can do if you have to drive (exept winter tires and block heater)

Re: Snow!!!!!!!

good coat of WAX, wash it everyday, YES everyday esp after snow, salt, etc.... and i WOULD spray wd-40 in the inner fender wells and other known rust area's...but its only a matter of time before the rust starts...also if you have a garage it helps a lot

i had a black 95 Tahoe, new paint, mint ass truck, washed it everyday , waxed the hell out it, sprayed it with oil..etc ...but I drove it thru all the salt and shyt and it still rusted

as for you guys in Florida and Texas i would never want to be there in the summer when it's over 100...Fuk that , thats worse than snow

and PLUS Snowboarding and Snowmobiling FTW!! haha

Re: Snow!!!!!!!

get under the car and prime/paint any bare metal. the WD-40 sounds like a good idea too. get snow tires. learn to start out in 2nd gear. if you do wash it drive it around and let it dry. I've never had my car freeze by doing that

If you have coilovers, raise it. Wash it a lot. And if you don't have snow tires, I have two words for you: Bridgestone Blizzaks.

It has Coilovers and I'm probably going to take the lip kit off so I don't lose it. I've never raised a car on Coilovers before so I'm not sure on how to go about it, but yeah I'll have to do that soon. I haven't looked if it has a block heater, but I think it does, it's Canada...

If it's a CDM Prelude it might have come from the factory with a block heater. I installed a block heater on my current Prelude and I LOVE IT.

lol. A block heater plugs into a standard plug in outside and heats your anti-freeze. It's only useful when it's below zero out and I wish I didn't know what it was.

I use mine any time it gets below freezing. Put it on a timer to come on like 3 hours before you need to drive in the morning, and you won't have to sit and wait for your car to warm up.

Yeah I got a timer too, it's pointless to have it running all night because it takes like 2 hours to warm up on a really cold day anyways.
