Hey, everyone.

Just curious. My '00 'lude has both a spoiler LED brakelight and the rear deck brakelight. Currently, only the spoiler brakelight (of the two) is working.

Is the spoiler brakelight wire replacing the rear deck brakelight? Or should both be working? Just wondering if I should buy a bulb for the rear deck brakelight?

Tnx,

Re: Curious - spoiler brakelight & rear deck brakelight

It sounds like someone added the spoiler after the car was made. So the spoiler brake like replaced the rear deck one. The way its working right now is fine.

Re: Curious - spoiler brakelight & rear deck brakelight

The spoiler was an "option" from the factory. Typically the 3rd brake light is wired up, but when a factory spoiler is added, the brake light is disconnected at a jumper harness near the right rear shock tower and the extension from the spoiler is then plugged into where the 3rd brake light once was.

So you only have one of the two working. You can simply remove the 3rd brake light if it bothers you, and either wrap the rear deck in new cloth to cover the hole - or purchase an SH rear deck from Honda.

Re: Curious - spoiler brakelight & rear deck brakelight

Mine came with the optional spoiler and the deck brake light doesn't work while the spoiler light does. Also don't mean to thread jack but what fabric could I cover the hole with?

I don't mind the thread jack.. information is information!

But, now this makes me wonder: how much effort would it take to get them both working? I know it's redundant, but I'd like to get them both operational, if possible.

Tnx,

Re: Curious - spoiler brakelight & rear deck brakelight

You would have to trace it back to the harness I mentioned in the shock tower - and see if it either has another open plug hiding back there or take 2 wires and splice into it to feed the 3rd brake light.

As far as wrapping the rear deck - any black fabric will work fine. You can use upholstery glue on the top and lay it down/pull it tight, or (the method I used) Just stretch cloth over the entire deck and hot glue it around the underside edge - that way if I ever want to remove it, i'm not ruining the top of the deck.

Re: Curious - spoiler brakelight & rear deck brakelight

my car has just the spoiler brake light working, and there is a connector under the rear deck that goes to the rear window brake light that is disconnected. i saw it while i was bypassing my acoustic feedback system for the rear 6x9s. i could take a pic when im out of school if you would like.

Re: Curious - spoiler brakelight & rear deck brakelight

Yeah, it makes no sense for both to be working. If you're looking at the butt of a lude with a spoiler, the brake light ON the spoiler is right in the way of the one on the rear deck….thus only the spoiler brake light needs to work.

^ +1

I think it looks a bit silly with both the spoiler LED light and 3rd brake light coming on. Besides, the LED brake light already looks great :P

Re: Curious - spoiler brakelight & rear deck brakelight

In the directions for installing the optional rear deck spoiler on a base model it specifically states that you unplug the 3rd brake light harness plug, and connect it to the spoiler harness. For those of you that have both lights working, the shop that did the install did it wrong. Honda Automotive Parts used to have the accessory installation instructions for 1999 & older Honda models, but they removed it from their site. For anyone that is interested in these directions - go to your local Honda parts dept, and they will print them out for you for free. I can do this and scan it to .pdf or .jpeg and post them for those unable to do so themself.

If it's not too much trouble, much appreciated. I'd like to see if I have the same.

I know I'm splitting hairs when I say this, but.. only if the person behind you is in a car that sits roughly as low as yours. Trucks/busses, on the other hand.. and if I've got a 2+ ton missile on wheels behind me, especially in this day and age of distracted-driving-gone-amuck, that extra light might be handy.

Re: Curious - spoiler brakelight & rear deck brakelight

Not really bro. The spoiler light is LEDů.Ie, much brighter than the one on the deck. If both of your other brake lights, there is no need to have a 4th brake light. It's just stupid. Trucks and buses are barely going to see your car anyway, so they rely on ALL brake lights to be working. You can't ride around with 4 brake lights for the off chance that you get in front of a bus or truck, unless your job is an escort car for an Over-sized load, and that too would be dumb.
