Car won't shut off!?

So I'm going to Walmart, I park my car and when I turn the key to turn off the car. Then I find the car is still on and the key is out of the ignition. I tried putting it back it to "turn it on" again but that wasn't much help. I also tried to shift through the gears. (AT). It finally shut off after aggressively turning the key clockwise. I'm assuming I need a new ignition cylinder? I don't know much about cars but common sense says this is a problem to say the least. Any help, advice or places I can go to in the NYC or Long Island area please let me know, THANK YOU!

Re: Car won't shut off!?

I would say 95% sure it's your master ignition cylinder. It happen to me exactly what you described, got it fixed and no problems since

Re: Car won't shut off!?

ignition switch recall was covered by honda, which caused issues starting the car - i don't recall hearing about the actual cylinder giving an issue like this

Check the list of recalls, located around here somewhere..... off to work so happy searching! lol

Re: Car won't shut off!?

I called Honda and they said all recalls have been applied to my
VIN. I asked how much for a ignition cylinder and new key, it's close to 650 with programming a new key. Funny thing is I never had this issue before my h23 swap.

Re: Car won't shut off!?

damn man that sucks... I would push for them to do it for you... you havent had this problem, and if they have fixed it before it should be their problem that it ****ed up again. they should be able to last forever or a very long time at least...

my family has had cars for 20 years and that problem never happened.... so they should fix it for you for free.

the customer is always right, so dont stop pushing for it until they give, its their problem not yours, especially if its a known problem that was recalled

Re: Car won't shut off!?

ok so honda cant do anything for me. The car is jus sitting in my driveway. I have a list of items that need to get fixed. Looks like im going to have to bite the bullet again and shell out the cash to get everything fixed. I could have gotten a clean ass prelude for all the money ive been "investing" into it. I hate that everyone was right when telling me to buy a more reliable car, but I always wanted a prelude (5th gen). Anyway ill update when I can. Thank you for your quick input and advice guys.

Re: Car won't shut off!?

you could have gotten an already built clean ass prelude, but then it wouldnt be your build, and you wouldnt be able to take pride in the fact that you built it the way you wanted to... my .02

Re: Car won't shut off!?

I had this problem... ended up being the wiring for the ignition switch. I just zip tied the thing so it wouldn't move because when it moved it was causing the car to turn on and off randomly.

Re: Car won't shut off!?

if you spend $16k you have spent $9k +/- less than the original owner..it was likely about $25k new.

Re: Car won't shut off!?

so i got it started today! good news. now what i did was have a buddy hit the starter while i crank it. it didnt work and then i went back to my old ignition and installed that. I had him hit it again and it started! So why is the new ignition not working? Would it need programming?

Im no where near 16K but still I just want the dam thing to work. Its mainly my fault because I don't know spit about mechanics and I didn't take it to a mechanic first before buying it. With that said a lesson learned the hard way but I don't see myself parting with it for a long time.
