Painting my new front lip

I painted my P1 front lip this week and ive wanted to do a write up so here it is.

Things you need:
1. 2 rattle cans of your color paint
2. 3 cans of automotive clear coat
3. 1500 grit wet sandpaper
4. heat lamp (optional)

(i took this pic before i got 1500 grit and forgot to take another, disregaurd the 600 grit)

First thing i did was make an area to paint. Clean the lip well before doing anything i just used a sponge and water.

Make sure its not to cold out or use a heat lamp when spraying base coats. Start with a light coat gradually getting heavier. I did 3 coats.

After 3 coats i let it dry for a day. there was some orange peel so i soaked the 1500 wet sand paper in water with a little soap and sanded it till it was pretty smooth. use alot of water .

you can kinda see the orange peel in this pic

after wet sanding

after wet sanding i put on 2 more coats of paint

I let that dry for the day. Now comes the time to clear coat. Make sure its not cold at all or the clear coat will get foggy (i found out the hard way) so i put a heater in my garage and it worked perfect.

I let it sit under the lamp for a little bit after 3 coats of clear but dont let it sit to long or the clear will get little bubbles. After a little while under the lamp i brought it inside to completely dry.

I was pretty happy with how it turned out so i left it for a day and then put it on. It looks better then my front bumper in person haha

(dont make fun of my hood and lights haha i got in an accident a while ago and havent been able to fix it yet)

That would be the finished product. Im probably going to put LED lights in the slits next week. ill post a pic when i do.

I probably spent around $35 total.

Let me know what you guys think! thanks

they do. and they can be quite expensive. i think my can was like $35. its also not an exact match of course. but its right in the ball park of the correct color/shade

Re: Painting my new front lip

They do make milano red in a can. Duplicolor does anyways. But there are like 4 or 5 different shades of it. Some darker some lighter. you would be better off taking your gas cap and getting it paint matched.

Touch Up Paint from PaintScratch.com

Mixes near perfect rattle can paints (even pearl tri-coats). I bought some a while back for my front lip (rock hit it and chipped a quarter-sized piece of paint off). Can't even tell it was repainted, or even rattle-canned.
