Re: battery dead?

Windows still work...

I've also never killed my battery before and I'm 17 years old so maybe expecting an advanced car mechanics expert is a bit too harsh.

I wanted to know what will still work when my battery is dead, because lights and windows still work and I hope i didn't kill me starter instead.

Nothing. Can hear the starter trying to get going, but it sounds weak.

Re: battery dead?

did you try giving it a little gas when turning the key over?
what did you do to kill the battery? if it did die that is.... played music for to long with a system and no car running? left a light on? can you still use your stereo, lights, etc?
have you tried jump starting it?

FIRST, check all connections to make sure they are good connection (clean metal to clean metal) and tight, battery fuse box, alternator, etc.
then i would check fuses if you were messing around with them... check for burnt out fuses, you should be able to tell the difference between a burnt fuse and a good one...
replace any that are bad, see if it starts, if not, jump start it, then go up front and with the car running, remove the Negative battery terminal off of your battery (black, ground). thats how you check you alternator at home. if the alternator is bad your idle will either drop or notice a difference in it, or your car will die. if thats not the case, go get your battery tested at autozone, or pepboys, they do it for free.

if none of the following work, or you try jump starting and nothing, then you might be looking into a new starter or possibly deeper, not sure... sounds like an electrical issue for sure though.

good luck

Re: battery dead?

My car doesn't drive because i'm waiting for a new clutch so I thought in the meantime I'd check out the electrical system and try to figure out the daytime running lights and why they're not working. Long story short, I changed a few fuses to the correct ones according to the diagram, messed up my sunroof, and discovered a couple days ago that my power mirrors and heated seats won't work. I thought it maybe because they aren't getting enough power so I tried to start the car and it wouldn't.

It probably died because i would test the lights constantly to see if they work or not.

I just sounds like the starter doesn't have enough power to turn the engine over so I'm gonna boost it and hopefully it starts.

It's my first time digging around in cars so I'm not an expert on it, but I didn't think it would be that hard.

What I wanted to know is what should work even when your battery doesn't have enough charge to start the car and I'm guessing that depending on how much charge it has left is what WILL or WILL NOT work.

Thanks to the 1 person that actually took this seriously and didn't act like a dick head.

If you don't have anything useful to say, don't ****ing post...

Well, your first post on this thread would have been taken the wrong way. It sounds like youre wondering why the electronics dont work when you know the battery is flat.
This isnt on the topic you wanna hear, but yeh.

Watch yourself. The first person to reply to this post is a mod of the site (notice the red name) and can ban you for being an asshole to him.

Having a dead battery means it is DEAD. No juice at all, 0% charge. You have a battery that is drained, meaning still some life but not enough to do big functions such as starting the car. Its all about how your question was phrased. Watch your working.

second that, but test the alternator anyway to see if its working properly and charging the battery when the motor is running, and test your battery too, it shouldnt get drained from testing out your lights...

and people are gonna post things like that when you ask questions like this, you are an ameteur, everyone started out as one, they just forgot that they did... so dont get mad and keep trying to learn, youll learn alot from the people on this site, and doing research on the things you have trouble with

Re: battery dead?

If you want people to help you with your problems, you need to explain the situation properly. This forum is frequented by people willing to help while at the same time have a bit of fun. If you take things the wrong way and throw a little hissy fit, all you'll get is more ignorant comments and little to no help for your problems. Be nice to those members that respond, most want to help but you've got to take the initiative. As stated previously, we're not there with you, so you must be clear about the issues. None of us have crystal balls.....

Like I suggested in your "sunroof" thread, get some local help from someone who has a little experience. You should also get yourself a cheap multimeter so you can measure voltages and perform continuity checks. It appears that your car has numerous electrical issues so this would be a good place to start. Post what you find and I'm sure you'll get better response.
You should also download the service manual if you haven't already.

Lolz. He getting salty at people for posting stupid responses... We on the interwebz what do you expect. Plus you stated "My battery is dead" Well know friggen crap your car hardly works. Turning yo lights on an off for months and never charging it, its the same concept of turning on and off a flashlight without putting it on the charger

Because it adds to the sarcasm. It's much better than posting random crap you found on the interwebz onto your facebook profile... This way we can all haz a laugh at someone elses stupidity but at the same time no that its in good fun. If i would just litteraly type, "you mad bro" You'd think i was just being a dick. but if i add a funny meme its like ha, okay everyone is just clowning around.

Re: battery dead?

Lol this thread's awesome.

Starter takes a lot more juice to start then the windows. The sunroof takes more juice then some people think because it has to pick up the glass.

You should also clean and lubricate the moonroof tracks. Search for more info....

Re: battery dead?

Yeah that's what I figured. I just never ran out of power before so I wasn't sure if it did run out or something else broke.
