Brake light problems

So guys a few weeks ago i noticed that my left brake light was out, i replaced the bulb with a new one but still nothing. So i swapped the right bulb into the left but it still didn't work. So i put everything back together and walked away. as i walked away i hit my lock button on my remote, both brake lights flashed, including the left one. This puzzled my, my dad came out to help me. the PO swapped trunks i believe and has the spoiler brake light now, that works... but now neither brake light works now. Hope everybody is still following me on this. We checked the brake light fuse and it's perfectly fine, anybody know what could be the problem?

Re: Brake light problems

Bad ground for the harness in the back. try that...then use a test light and see if your getting power to the light sockets.

This is because the alarm light flash is the taillight filament in the bulb. The brake lights use the other filament in the bulb. Does the spoiler brake light still come on when you hit the brakes?

I thought it was just the other lights in the taillights as well but it is confirmed the brake lights, its an aftermarket alarm so it may change it up. And yes the spoiler bake light still comes on.

Re: Brake light problems

Get a multimeter and test for continuity in the harness. I had the same problem with my drivers side headlight

Re: Brake light problems

Not 100% sure where the ground is but i think that your can pull the plastic cover off and the trunk liner back and find a bolt the has a few wires ground to the chassis

Re: Brake light problems

Do your running lights still work? the running lights should light up both of the tail lights. if both tail lights light up both bulbs but don't work for the brake lights then it seems like a brake circuit problem.

Re: Brake light problems

From what I can gather - the previous owner added the spoiler/trunk, and the car did not come with it originally?

If so, it's possible he just cut the brake light harness to splice into the spoiler vs using the extension harness to the junction that leads to the 3rd brake light. When installing a spoiler with a light, the 3rd brake light is supposed to be disconnected and plugged into the spoiler instead.

I suggest removing the trunk liner and tracing out the spoiler wires and see if the PO either cut into the harness for power, or did it the proper way.
