Icon5 Sunroof Won't Close!!

I was messing around with my wiring in my 99 Prelude and when I turned the car on my sunroof started to go up on it's own and won't stop trying to go up. It's like the "Open" button is always sending power to the motor and I hear ticking like it's still trying to open.

Help please?

Re: Sunroof Won't Close!!

Did you cut a wrong wire or messed one of them up? Try going back through the wires you were messing with and see for yourself. In the meantime there's a tool in that little brown bad in the trunk that you can use to close the sunroof manually just pop off that round clip in the rear seat part of the roof and use it.

Re: Sunroof Won't Close!!

Yes I closed it multiple times after it kept opening and I managed to strip the allel key hole so now it's really hard to close it.

I looked all over, but can't figure it out. I thought it might be a relay problem and someone on another forum suggested that it's the switch that won't stop feeding the "open" power to the sunroof.

Re: Sunroof Won't Close!!

Un-plug the switch and you shouldn't have a problem with it opening....if it still does it then either relay or short to power somewhere else.

Re: Sunroof Won't Close!!

Your messing around with the wiring caused a short, Like Hunter said, disconnect switch and see if motor still runs. Try to backtrack what you were "messing with" and you can hopefully find the problem.
Moonroof electrical drawing section starts on page 23-169 of the service manual.
Good luck......

Re: Sunroof Won't Close!!

When I unplug the switch or take out the fuse it doesn't work. I'm almost certain it's the switch, but I don't know if I can fix it.

Re: Sunroof Won't Close!!

is it possible that it's one of the fuses. I originally went in to check out the fuses and found some that had wrong fuses in them so I replaced them with the ones according to the fuse diagram on the fuse cover. Is it possible that the person messed with the car and now the fuses could be wrong even if the diagram says it's right?

Re: Sunroof Won't Close!!

I don't think wrong fuses can freak out the sunroof like that. But does it work when you changed them?

Re: Sunroof Won't Close!!

Fuses will not cause this issue. If the motor runs in the open position whenever it is powered, it is because the relay is energized. The switch when activated supplies a ground potential to the relay energizing it and supplying power to the motor.

If you messed around with wiring you could have caused a shorted condition that duplicates the function of the switch, the motor will continuously run and may burn out. It could also be a bad relay.

PM me if you need further info.

Re: Sunroof Won't Close!!

After I changed all of the fuses to the Correct ones according to the diagram my heated seats and power mirrors stopped working. I checked the fuse numbers and placement like 5 times and they are all active and in their correct spots.

Now that I think about it I'm almost 90% certain that it's the switch because when I was digging around there were 4 plug ins. Cruise, Sunroof, Dimmer, and one that I didn't know what it did. It would only fit into the sunroof port so I plugged it in there and clicked the button a few times to see if it did anything. I think that may have damaged the button because of incorrect voltage or something so now it's stuck supplying power to the motor.

I'll take pictures of my fuse panel and the 4 plug ins so you guys can see.

Yeah, I don't think they work though...

This car is weird. According to the VIN (8th digit is a 5) and the stickers it's a Type S, but the doors and ignition doesn't have courtesy lights which the SH is supposed to have so I'm guessing the doors have been swapped. The front bumper and fenders are JDM so it's a bit of a handful.

Sorry I meant to say Type "SH" instead of Type S. The only thing that throws me off is the absence of courtesy lights on the doors which could be explained by swapping of the doors and also the peeling 2nd layer of paint on them which means it's been painted, and not well.

The ignition light isn't there, but that could be explained by the replacement of the steering wheel to an aftermarket one and I also found half of the old ignition dock in the glove compartment.

I also don't see an ATTS and ABS lights go on at all which is kind of weird, but might also be part of the electrical issues I have. The fuse board has fuses for ATTS and ABS so I'm not sure what's up there.

AAAAAAALSO insult to injury with my e-brake light not turning off even when the e-brake is down.

I might have to find someone to sort out my electrical problems because there are a lot of unexplained wires that I'm not sure are doing their job. Also I probably have to replace every motor in the car, sunroof, power windows, wipers, and mirrors because they are all very slow. It's either an age problem or they aren't getting enough power....

Re: Sunroof Won't Close!!

Clean up your grounds man. in the engine bay, on the battery, in the kick panels. sounds like all the wire is a compound problem. brake light you could try adding fluid to the master cylinder.

Re: Sunroof Won't Close!!

ground connections cruddy? there is a big ole blob of metal stuff by the driver front wheel if you have an atts unit. sounds like you may have purchased a money pit. if you don't know wiring or aren't the patient type you might consider taking it to a wire expert.. not just any ole mechanic but a wire guy who will be glad to trace the 80km of wires in your car, fix the big stuff and reccomend how to proceed with the small stuff. i tried to guess where a previous owner had rigged and spliced in my 91 for long enough to know i needed help. i took it to a guy and $125 later many problems both present and future were diagnosed and/or solved.
my atts bulb in the dash was removed which tells me the atts unit was faulty. just bought it in august and still discovering stuff the previous owner had changed.

I remember my first thread, asking what a noise was when I got going 110mph.
Pretty much got flamed for driving like a jackass and was told to slow down. And I'll be damned, slowing down fixed it.

Re: Sunroof Won't Close!!

Update on my Sunroof problem:

I haven't figured it out yet, it's probably a fried switch or a bad relay.

Recap:

I saw the daytime running lights not working so I decided to check if the fuses were messed. I replaced a few fuses that were 15 instead of 7.5. Didn't change anything, so I messed with a few ports and nothing changed. I then took out the Cruise, Roof, Dimmer panel and found an extra port that looks like this.

The green harness that i circled in RED is the unknown harness.

The blue one that is circled in YELLOW is the sunroof harness that plugs into the sunroof switch also circled in YELLOW.

the GREEN harness fits into the sunroof switch so I tried it to see what it does. Nothing happened so I switched back to the sunroof harness and the sunroof started to go up on it's own and when it got to the end it still clicked as if it wanted to keep going.

After a lot of asking around I decided that it's the switch so I'm going to replace it and see if that works.

Now onto my other electrical questions.

I found a lot of unplugged wires under the hood that I'm not sure about.

My ABS and ATTS lights won't turn on, but there is an ABS system and it's a Type SH and I'm not sure where the ATTS system is and what it looks like.

I know it's not the best picture, but my camera wouldn't take a better one. Anyways, if you guys see anything wrong or weird let me know.

I'm also not sure why My high beams and normal driving use the same bulb and the one I outlined in RED in the picture does nothing, I don't even think there's a bulb in it.

Re: Sunroof Won't Close!!

plug 1 Horn..i think....maybe ac condensor
plug 2 ac comprssor hook ups
plug in red on the left is high beams or low beams
plug in red by itslf is high or low beam.

low beams should be the lower bulb.....high beams should activate the one circled in red and the lower light.
